"Audio is recorded in stereo at 256kbps, while the bit rates for video are a nice round 40Mbps for 4K30, 60Mbps for 4K60, and 80Mbps for 8K30 (h.265, quality priority)"

Bitrates basically same since s6 days. So ridiculous.

How to make the S series great again :
    >Let the S24 and S24+ have better cameras, as it stands the A54 has the same sensor size for the main cam as the S24 and S24+. The telephoto at least should be 1/3". This sensor is smaller than the one found on the Galaxy Note8 and has 2 MP less.
    >Snapdragon for all phones like the S23 series or have 100 dollar discounts for Exynos products because even Samsung knows they are inferior, if I'm getting an inferior chip I'd like a discount to soften the blow.
    >256 GB storage minimum for all phones.
    >A natural camera processing style, Samsung's phones have good enough hardware to take good photos but their processing lets them down, aggressive noise reduction that leaves noise but destroys detail, overdone sharpening, overdone colors and worst of all, overexposed photos with boosted shadows. The S24 series understands this and tones it down a lot compared to the "perfect" S23 series that everyone's been raving about. They go natural on the S21/S22 series and come back swinging with the S23 series then go back on the S24 series to act like they're doing something new. The picture softening is good but it feels like it is done AFTER the photo is taken since in the preview it shows a blurred photo, the Main cam has good results with High softening but the UW and telephoto cams deserve medium softening. Samsung's color science is better this year, they just need to improve their noise reduction algorithm. Look at the top left side of UW camera's photos from both the S23 and S24 in the office with the GSM arena logo, you'll see the ugly noise im talking about. Even with ISO 50 the main camera produces such ugly noise artifacts. Again it's not Samsung's mediocre hardware, their software isn't up to par. Noise isn't bad, I like it, I like to keep noise reduction minimal, I hope Samsung understands that and either tweaks their software or provides a slider for noise reduction strength so people can choose what they want.
    >Lower prices for the S24 and S24+, 100-200 dollars less would make these more compelling
    >Better designs. Make the designs like the S Ultra phone OR do NOT make the A series phones look like the S phones. Samsung struck gold with the S21 and S22 series, going from classy and beautiful phones to this.
Do all of that and other manufacturers would have a hard time competing overall with Samsung, of course if they're able to somehow bring back MicroSD cards or have front speakers everyone else is doomed. Samsung has the brand image, investment power, software support and experience to make it all happen. Ever since the Ultra series the base S models have always felt "cheap" compared to the top one. This wasn't the case from the S8 series till the S10 series. The S6 and S7 phones were different but also similar enough to warrant the price hike and differences. As it stands, Samsung is the AMD (in terms of GPUs) of the smartphone landscape, not as good as Apple (NVIDIA) but just as greedy.

" We wouldn't expect to see Samsung letting us down in terms of color"

The vivid/saturated indicates samsung is doing exactly that.
        🤦🏻‍♂️

If you read a review of a moderately sized hatchback or sedan, there will be mentions of „well you could also get this ugly oversized bloated pedestrian-killing blob of an SUV for not much more“ and the worst thing is that most people would jump on that. Case in point, Tesla Model 3 vs Model Y.

I don't get why you listed the Ultra, One Plus 12, Pixel 8 Pro with its 6,8'' huge displays as alternatives to this small compact phone. It was totally unnecessary

Getting S23, you do lose out on LTPO and 8G3 in some countries but besides that, kinda the same thing really. I'd get a S22U or i13 Pro (in MY opinion).

Galaxy mini, sure. Here‘s how it sizes up to a phone similar in size to an actually galaxy mini, the S5 mini

Today, we only have choices between phones sized in big, bigger and biggest

Long story short: get an S23 !

Seems like a decent incremental upgrade. I still disagree with using Exynos even if performance is improved. Qualcomm modems are still better for signal and throughput. Too bad GSMArena doesn't test these capabilities. Need to come up with a standard for performing such tests.

GSM Arena have you not noticed the horrible softness to the main camera lens yet again like previous S23 Plus?? It's clearly evident on pixel peeping and over sharpening too. And corner softness. Horrible images
