OnePlus 12R review

Very balanced midranger with a good enough 2x. Better chip, display and camera (arguably) than the Nothing Phone 2. A 3x telephoto is not enough to get anyone except for die-hard Samsung/telephoto fans to buy the S23 FE. I love telephotos as much as the other guy but this phone is such a huge upgrade over the S23 FE that it seems criminal to get the S23 FE.

The midrange segment thus brings another dilemma : Camera performance, balance, software or chip power. Oneplus 12R is balanced and has chip power, the Xiaomi 13T (base) brings camera prowess unmatched in the midrange-flagship killer segment though it suffers from software that is not as good as others (imo at least), Nothing Phone 2 is balanced as well with decent software chops and finally the Pixel 7a brings bombastic camera prowess and a decent chip but not so good battery life and charging. So yeah the 12R is quite balanced and if it had a better UW cam/a telephoto it'd have been unmatched but it's the midrange segment so I can't complain. BBK's phones make so much sense compared to the competition, only the Xiaomi 13T comes close but otherwise people should start from the Oneplus 12R and if they want to up their budget they should go for the IQOO 12, then the Oneplus 12, Vivo X100 Pro and if money is no option then the Find X7 Ultra is a nice option.

For $500 a telephoto is a MUST, or at least a good ultrawide
I don't see why would anyone choose this over the competition

Now this is some excellent battery life

            Nerfed OP11.

This only exists because it is easier to sell this at $500 than selling OP11 at $500.

One plus 12 R very beautiful and amazing phone

Against A55 and Nothing Phone (2a), this solos. Against Xiaomi 14T and Pixel 8a, it's gonna be a stiffer competition. I have been eyeing this phone for about a week. I like the design, chipset and display/panel (DOLBY VISION). As for the cons:

"IP65 rating when a lot of competitors offer submersion-grade IP67/IP68.
                  No wireless charging.
No zoom camera, low-res ultrawide without AF.
Unremarkable daylight video quality, so-so stabilization."

IP65 is not the best but better than IP5X rating. Dealbreaker for me? No.
Wireless charging when you have 100W wired is crazy. Not a dealbreaker but nice to have.
Low res ultrawide and no AF kinda bums me out, I like taking nature photos.
I don't record videos often but here and there. Cameras are MID best but yea.

I would buy this phone but I'm waiting to see what A55, (2a) and Pixel 8a brings to the table. OP12 scores a 8.4/10.

imagine a phone this good at this price is what you don't get in the Galaxy A55 which will probably also cost $500. Please do I hate Samsung? how can I say A55 is better?

It's always those two 8mp uw + 2mp macro/depth camera... If I had a nickel for every time a Chinese company uses those two cameras, I would've been rich by now.

The weak camera setup is what keeps me away from buying it. At that price, I would expect a telephoto, at least a 2x one
