Look at LG, lots of utility and amazing designs like the V20, but they tanked their reputation and then no amount of new features would draw customers back. And this isn't exactly a unique story which is how Asus ended up here and ditched these features, even though they should have marketed them better. Remember when iPhone was having influencers do that "OMG look how sharp this new selfie camera" content? That wouldn't hold a candle to a flip camera, that would blow everything out the water. That is what ASUS should have ran with, go 1up others where they can. They're ASUS, they need all the opportunities they can get.

Utility seems to be some ugly duckling thing in the mobile space - nobody gives a f or actively avoids it, unless Apple does it (and then it's WOW🤩 level ignorance). Consumers seem so conservative.

    I don't understand how this phone can get a 4.4. This is a sign of the times for the stagnant mobile industry as well as stagnant phone review culture. Is this really on the same level as more historically interesting phones and Chinese brands who keep pushing hardware higher? Are you not allowed to say anything bad anymore?

    There is an additional variable not being accounted for in reviews like this, the total score right now just feels like a sum of it's parts, when most people judge products holistically and rate them as more than the sum of it's parts (whether that is positive or negative).

      What a stupid phone, they should've focused on the compact segment instead of trying to compete in a saturated market that is mastered by many other companies.

        It's a very average flagship all around, especially in the cameras, yet it gets a whopping 4.4 score?

            $#@* (Awful)phone tbh, the elimination of the Compact and Flip variants with the motorized cameras proved that Asus are forgetting from the hard exposure of Steve of Gamer's Nexus. If they want to release a compact phone on the next season or year smh, the last thing they need is to go foldable. Mr Mobile loaded a very educational video of foldable could be your next compact phone At the same price. This at $999 is far inferior than the Zenfone 6...

If you give me *ANY* pre-installed bloatware, you must let me properly uninstall it. Disabling only goes so far, and that's not the way to deal with this. Samsung should be blocked by courts from shoving uninstallable bloatware down our throats. Same goes for all the other OEMs that do this, Chinese brands included.

                        Don't like your icons? You can change that.
                        Don't like the size of the AOD? You can completely overhaul it and customize it.
                        Don't like the position of your lockscreen clock? You can place it on the bottom or wherever you'd like.
                        Don't like the bloat? You can diasble it and hide it.
                        I have absolutely never had any "lag" or performance issues on my base S21, people that complain about that are usually the same ones that download weird game apps(like the apps pushed on IG ads)

                                  Asus phones are worst then any other
                                  I was a huge fan of small phones and I bought asus 8z known as asus zenfone 8 as it was launched in india in year feb 2022 it was working fine and i was happy with it in the month of feb 22 they sent an overnight update in firmware and after 2 days the system crashed and the phone stucked on asus logo
                                  I tried to get it fixed by service centre but they are fool and can't understand the problem
                                  I wrote to asus but didn't got any proper response
                                  Overall it was a poor experience with asus
                                  People must think multiple times before purchasing any asus product

                                    Your ideas are not good from the design point of view and mainly financial point of view.
                                    No OEM will ever do it.

                                    You do not care if phone has 16mm thickness without counting cam bump. Brands do not want to make phone that thick. This adds weight, this adds costs.
                                    You do not care if phone has 300g, brands do care.
                                    Brands are doing cuts everywhere they can (poor cooling, cheaper screens, minor upgrades) to avoid price increase.

                                    Just go buy Meizu phone business and make phones the way you want.
                                    No one else will.

That pi... moreWhich is why it should be reworked to be thicker and the overall phone should be thicker to accomodate that. Plus, the camera bump being thicker shouldn't cause such problems.
