Sony will be done soon. LGV30, V40, V50 all had QHD+ displays, then they downgraded the V60 to FHD+, and we all know how that ended.

Looks like my X1 V doesn't need to worry at all.

I definitely think this phone should be a few hundred pounds cheaper but I guess getting the WH1000XM5 bundled in softens the blow a bit. I'm currently using a Pixel 7 Pro and sick of having to charge my phone every day. It might not be the best phone on the market but this phone does excite me feature wise compared to other brands.

            Very nice phone
            +SD card audio jack

              Well, underwhelming is an understatement.

Some positive moves forward, but the number of Android updates is still well of the market leaders. I also suspect the software support (security patches and OS patches) will remain poor.

No mention of Snapdragon Sound and apt-x lossless in the review, though I'd be surprised if these features were missing. No HDR support in Netflix is a worry too. I wonder if the BT issues the the 1V suffered from Android 14 persist here too?

Good to see purported improvements to the camera software - can't blame Sony for only minor improvements to the camera hardware, as Samsung and Apple are guilty of the same.

A 1080p screen is not necessarily the worst thing ever, given the battery life boost, but it does not sit well with the super premium image and pricing, nor does the throttling of the overall performance.

This feels like a phone that should cost a good few hundred dollars/Euros/pounds less than it does. Pleased to see an improved headphone jack and the SD card retained, but the high cost means it is not at all competitive. Hard miss from me, Sony. 1V was a nightmare to own after the Android 14vl update and I can see nothing of substance here to make me come back to the Xperia clan. I wonder if there will ever be a VII series?

Is it just me? The portrait bokeh mode shots look horrible

That battery life and the telephoto macro are both extremely impressive. The phone is overall okay, I'd rate it a 4.1-4.3★ instead of 4.5★, but it's got some extremely good points as well as some pretty underwhelming ones. So, I'd probably give it 4.2★ or 4.3★ instead of 4.1★, but still potentially possible. The biggest problem personally for me is that the screen is now 19.5:9 and is now 1080p. Keep it as 21:9, reduce the bottom bezels a lot (while still keeping the bottom stereo speaker setup intact), and change the resolution to 1440p instead (since 1644p is too much for no benefit but 1080p is too low). Also, the brightness increase is not enough, it needs to have comparable brightness levels to the Google Pixel 8 Pro (benchmark for brightness this year since it was the earliest phone to have such a high peak brightness figure). I personally prefer 20:9 as an aspect ratio, but 21:9 is part of Sony's design identity (as is the lack of a punchole for the selfie camera; the 3.5mm headphone jack; the microSD card reader; the grippy back texture; and the dual stereo speakers setup) and it stings for them to lose that.

There is no information about the UFS storage type! I wouldn't be surprised at all if it is 3.1 or perhaps even less knowing how they work at Sony

If it was 50Mp, you would have opportunity to take 12.5Mp x14 photo, but you would use 1/7" part of sensor.

Without a competitive price to undercut Samsung and Apple I don't see any hope for this phone. The change in screen helps it with battery life the cameras still aren't as good as top end flagships, yet it's more expensive... Just don't see this selling.

Reading the review and looking at the photos, I have an impression that they are not from the review of the same phone. Details look very digital here and I would say are not that great. They are good, but the grass or small details look bad for me... :( The same with zoom photos, e.g. this one: https://fdn.gsmarena.com/imgroot/reviews/24/sony-xperia-1-vi/camera/gsmarena_132.jpg It looks just bad.

Goes to read the comments under a sony or OnePlus, sees a bunch of ppl arguing BS without ever even touching one.....exactly how it should be

I'm not even lying but the low light video of this song Xperia is actually close in quality to the techno camon pro 5G.. I'm being dealt serious they are close in quality

How can you say the subject separation is great with Bokeh on when the first image demonstrating the bokeh can't get it correct, look to the right of the girl above her shoulder, the fourth image looks impressive. The last image with the dark haired lady, her hair is getting completely cut off.
The bokeh shots aren't "very nice".
For each section on the sample pictures there is more than 1 camera sample where the highlights are blown out, and bokeh on seems to exacerbate this also.
Did Stevie Wonder check these images?

Ellio74, 15 May 2024Past Xperia 1 were conservative when compared to this one. ... moreWhat changes? Almost everything is a downgrade compared to the 1 V

Since when is 4.5/5 not an "excellent" score?
