Nokia N85 review: Nseries revved up

07 November 2008
N85 is the latest Nseries signing and a bulletproof spec sheet sets it right in the thick of all-in-one action. Full-house connectivity and multimedia prowess topped with a massive OLED screen to die for, Nokia N85 gives the lineup a great edge...

GSM Arena said: "There is also a nice new feature in recent Nokia phones that automatically enables power-saving mode once the battery starts running low. This should usually give you a bit of extra time to get a charger before your battery is completely drained"

if i am not mistaken, those old phones from now-defunct Siemens Mobile already had the feature for years.
it's a shame that the rest of the phone manufacturers did not put the feature into their products (until now, thanks to nokia).
it's a great feature, really.....

N-series always have the newest technology, while the E-series have better build quality.
anyway, i think i should wait for the next N-series.
this one is too similar to my N95.

Nokia was my choice of phone... that was until their design and build quality went through the floor. The design is awful... It looks so tacky! They're seriously cutting costs in their phones by using sub par materials.

The Xperia is the one for me...if I don't get that its gonna be the i7110... Nokia have lost the plot (although the E71 is a damn fine phone)

I agree with the previous poster, I have the N85 and the build quality is just fair, never "commendable". The slider is loose and the d-pad and front keys are stiff. I'm trying to like the phone, but in fact the build quality is pushing me away.

"The general build quality of Nokia N85 is commendable."

That is so odd. I have had 2 N85 models and both had a terrible play when tha phone is slided open.

I bet it's a great phone but the build quality is not what it's supposed to be in a 600€ phone.

ever Since the N95, all the latest have been pretty much slight upgrades, the N95 is still a great phone and all this has is FM transmitter, FP2, Better Battery, Navi Wheel and Dual Led Flash,...OLED is not that much of a big deal, it looks great an all but still the same 2.6 and the New Nseries look, now that is't exactly worth the price for an upgrade form N95 Regular to N85, the only outstanding feature here is the FM transmitter, Navi Wheel and FP2 animations and its great speed.

I kept my N95 8GB and got the N78 for the FM Trans, Navi Wheel and FP2 hype and thats the same spces load for half the price of N96 and alot cheaper than N85.

An OK phone, Nseries Need something Major to top of again something like the N95 back in its day...i'm saying that as a Nokia Fan

                          Great review folks!

You just forgot to talk about the lack of Internet Phone Client; it's missing on new devices using S60 3rd rel 3.2!
Actually, it just have the SIP stack and you'll have to install an 3rd party software to use it. You cannot make the internet calls anymore, until someone develop an client that works with the internal SIP stack.
I cannot understand why Nokia had crippled these new devices...

Excluding this issue, it's a great device!

                          Regards

                              Sigh...
The real thing looks worse than the pictures...
It may have great specs, but why can't Nokia 'touch-up' the appearance as well to make it look better?
Side by side with N81 is pointing out clearly its 'blandness'

As much as I love Nokia, I must say that Sony Ericsson has better fit and finish for the final product.
SE just simply look nicer and smoother in reality.

                              Sigh...

I do believe the screen is 2.6 inches not 2.8. I'm probably wrong BUT you never know.
