Samsung S8300 UltraTOUCH review: Touch, slide, shoot

28 April 2009
Samsung S8300 UltraTOUCH, otherwise dubbed as the Tocco Ultra edition, joins in on the bandwagon of full touch handsets that occupy the whole upper range of the market quite successfully. Nothing...

I totally agree with "Ptah"
It's VERY difficult to navigate around a text for editing. And there is NO way to mark text and do simple Cut&Paste operations.
Even though I think it MIGHT have been intended. ONCE I got it to have a marking behavior (inversed text marking to the place I clicked). But I couldn't neither find a clean way of using the marked text nor reproduce the state/mode later... So might just be bug...

The interface expects a 'click' of a certain area, so you can't use a capacitive stylus (works about 40% of the times and in the edges of the screen only). So even if you try with your pinky, it can be VERY difficult to place the cursor at a specific letter for editing, so the navigation control is heavily missing. The rhomb-shaped key should have been a four-way key...

But coming from a wm6.1 phone (HTC Diamond) the S8300 is WONDERFUL!! It works 99.99% of the time (only got the s8300 in a 'hung' state once) and the two (for me) mayor functions SMS and Calling WORKS every time!

how about the lack of navigation key, which is a major blow in the device user-friendliness.

I would take the camera from this phone and put it on the iPhone. That would be the perfect product!

Oh, come on gsmarena... No virtual QWERTY?? So, would you like to have one? On such a small screen? It's hard to use full keyboard even on a 3" display, so what's the deal to use it on this one...
          It's a stylish class phone, not a full-featured smartphone.

I really like the concept of the this phone. I currently have the Samsung A867 and the TouchWiz interface is excellent. The screen on the S8300 is a little on the small side, but other than that, it seems solid. Too bad about the lack of wifi though.
