LG Optimus 3D preview: First look, in stereo

20 June 2011
A huge high-res screen, a new chipset expected to deliver beyond anyone's wildest hopes and 1080p video recording: the LG Optimus 3D sounds like a great package and we haven't even started yet. These are big ones no doubt, but not even close enough to making the headline. Not with a stereoscopic screen...

Boy I've been waiting for this since it was rumored many months ago.
:oD

It's not clear from the review whether the 3D button REPLACES a dedicated photo SHUTTER or DOUBLES as one. It would save a lot of time too.
I HATE it with my now-laggy Optimus One, to have to unlock the screen, activate the camera as a laggy app, sometimes launch something else that was one millimeter away, like MP3 player, then wait for the camera to pop up, and then realize the expression on the kid's face or that funny car passing by are long gone.

It would really be a deal breaker for me to have to use the screen to shoot pics and film.
Also, it's true that 5mpxl and 3 on the 3D side (whereas HTC will just do 2) is not much...

How many phones are they going to release before they get to the 16 mpxl that's in the works at Sony Ericsson? And therefore 8 mpxl in 3D mode?

I can already imagine the phones 5 years from now, with 100 mpxl or so...
Also, what about the single, "tiny" flash? Is it powerful?
The HTC Evo 3D has it double. Too bad it's ugly, which is crazy coming from HTC, they make the best-looking ones.

I'm wondering whether I'll indulge in 3D with this pioneer beauty, or wait for better cameras to come out, somewhere around 12 mpxl, with dedicated shutters, and double flash - maybe even one LED and one xenon.

...ok, who am I kidding?

Then again, why did you take so long to review it GSM Arena?

Thanks. :o)

molotofc, 21 Jun 2011It doesn't matter what dual-core, triple-core, million-core... moreThe recent LG update for my Optimus 2x completely eliminated UI lag and made the phone and all apps, alot faster.

ie. phone lag is due to bad programming mostly. Updates should fix it, honeycomb is still coming as well for LG devices

molotofc, 21 Jun 2011It doesn't matter what dual-core, triple-core, million-core... moreBecause there's no hardware accelerated UI on the android phones. Only on tablets(*cough*). SGS II is the only android phone with GPUI, but no thanks to google!

I'd be more interested if instead of using two crappy cameras they put one decent camera in there.

What is it with these phone designers, they try to bring a kingpin phone out then they skimp on the most important area "Ram" a 1 GHz dualcore CPU needs at least 1GB Ram, as long as that doesn't change it will be a dealbreaker for me!! That was the reason for me not to buy the HTC Sensation, even though I preferred the ui of htc the 768MB Ram in the sensation turned me off, in all the comparisons against samsung's galaxy s2 it is clearly visible how choppy the browser of the htc gets once u turn flash on, most of that Ram gets used up by the ui overlay like htc sense, samsung galaxy s2 still had more than half a gig of ram left to play with After touchwiz, come on LG put in this phone the it deserves 1gig Dual Core Ram !!

LG should first fix the software problems (rebooting) of the 2X.

The cameras are too closely placed for capturing a human-like 3d recording. The cameras should be placed with a distance similar to the width between the eyes for a more "natural" 3d-experience.

That has got to be on of the better LCD's on the market.

I would welcome some gps checks as some phones are totally unusable for turn by turn navigation (as Samsung galaxy s one was) due to their slow agps or crappy gps sensitivity,

P.4 User Interface: "The 3D apps aside, the user experience that the LG Optimus 3D offers is hardly any different from what you'd get from the Optimus 3D"

                                Well, that's obvious :)

This phone serves no purpose, the 3d specs are seriously not practical, the software looks awful too.
                                    Who wants 3d imaging?
