Nokia 500 review: In search of Anna

24 October 2011
The new generation of 1GHz Symbian- powered phones can get far. They need a place to start though and the Nokia 500 is happy to help. The common belief seems to be that there are more exciting things than Symbian on a budget. OK, well, the Nokia 500 is supposed to make you reconsider...

Nokia 500 is a peace of shit, this set is just good to see not for use. Battery backup is not good, it hangs up most of the time, speaker doesn't work properly (Distorted voice mostly). This phone is not up to the mark as per the specification.
I am regretting after buying this phone, rest up to you.

AnonD-22562, 28 Oct 2011I would not buy E7 (or N8 for that matter) if I were you. I... moreI am currently using a N8 and absolutely love it. Especially with the latest version of Anna. I have never had it hang and have continuous auto focus. Granted, the E7 should have had it's SOC scaled to match the 0.5in larger screen, but the camera was a comprimise for the keyboard

AnonD-24245, 26 Oct 2011Amazon has the E7 new for 386USD. A N8 with a bigger screen... moreI would not buy E7 (or N8 for that matter) if I were you. I have E7, and just trade it for my wife's xperia neo. E7 sucks a big time, slow, irresponsive, silly camera (this is a high end nokia phone, how could they even dare to put fixed focus crap camera in it?!?!). Nokia phones are nonesense, I will not prefer nokia over any modern android phone, ever.

Sad & happy N97 , 25 Oct 20111 Ghz cpu + 5 mp camera and it only manages VGA at 15 fps. ... moreDude, take a chill pill! You really are missing out if you aren't using a Symbian^3 device. I would especially recommend a N8 if you want USB-on-the-Go, HDMI (that doesn't just display pics and vids on tv, but mirrors the handset's display), the best camera on a phone to this day and a killer Sat Nav. 379USD sim free is a great deal. My Sony 16.3MP point & shoot cost more and is only better in low light Oh, and build quality that eats Sammys and craps LGs.
This 500 is ENTRY level. It also needs a bug fix apparently. Do no rely on it to display the beauty of a true lightweight open source OS on excellent handsets. Read about them all here.

I think this phone should have performed better with the 1Ghz processor... Just the best example of how things can go wrong if software and hardware is not optimised for each other.. Hope Belle would solve this issue(when and if it comes)...

all this lag is because of the absence of the broadcom gpu....
they took the term budget phone too seriously it seems...

Mayb coz its a budget device and nokia decided to use a basic gpu rather than the one(Broadcomm 2727)used in other symbian^3 handsets like n8,X7...It's a rather desperate move by nokia to compromise on hardware than the user end experience...shame on you nokia

The later Symbian phones (S^3, Anna and Belle) slipstreams through the N97 faster than light and sleeker than any silk you can feel.

From the look of things, this is a big ol' fail. It does demonstrate that CPU is not everything: N8 can shoot high-quality 720p after all. But as a handset, I just have to wonder how it is that Nokia builds and tests such a device, yet finds it acceptable to go on the shelves. Selling handsets with a laggy interface, buggy software and low-performance features is what has got Nokia into trouble. Doing the same again isn't helping anybody!
Seems the only thing they could have done worse with this phone was put S60 on it! :--P
