Nokia Asha 300 review: King of ordinary

23 January 2012
The Nokia Asha 300 may not exactly fit in with today’s standards of newsworthy. With smartphones flexing their muscles at venues like CES, sporting ever-expanding app markets, HD screens and multi-core processors, it’s hard to see how an entry-level offering could produce much of a splash...

Shame, I was going to buy this phone as a secondary mobile. But it's even more basic than I had hoped.

Maybe Nokia will get round to releasing a proper successor to the 6700 classic? I'd buy that in an instant.

In Asha300 Nokia has given 1GHZ Processor, Resistive touch, 5MP camera, USB OTG, 3.5G @ 80Euros. Fine. Surprising Nokia has not considered x3-02 plus capacitive screen + Better battery with Current x3-02 Price levels

This phone selling at $100 in my country, for that price this is "Gems" I don't agree that it doesn't fit today standard, someone out there might just need a simple & reliable phone this is where Nokia shine.
What's the point of having all sought of state of the art technology phone with bad call quality & less than a day battery life ? Android below $300 are absolute craps.

Just have to comment on the "elements borrowed from more popular platforms". Bit awkward choice of words considering there are about 1.5 billion S40 devices out there. S40 could very well be the most popular platform.

“Oops, I dropped my phone, is the floor OK?”

LOL at the reference to the Indestructible Nokia 3310 meme! :D

AnonD-9052, 24 Jan 2012who needs multitasking when this kind of mobiles are for ol... moreOr for those who find that they can get the simple tasks done faster on a featurephone.

One of the great things about S40 is, when I've got the menus set up right, I can access just about anything in a few clicks.

I'm not sure I like the idea of S40 with touch though..

Good stuff. If it had wi-fi it would be perfect. All that a man with a life really needs. I bet I could type on it faster than most people with those silly touch screens.

Would've been nice to have the accelerometer and capacitive screen in this one - seems a bit ridiculous having a 1GHz processor without them. Eh well, at this price range...
