Windows Phone 8 review: Str8 up

29 October 2012
Windows Phone 8 is officially in the race. It probably isn’t time to count the horses just yet but Team Windows seems ready to bounce – major OEMs have backed Microsoft up with flagships and mid-range options. Redmond is doing its part with what looks like one of the biggest OS overhauls this year...

Unfortunately the WP minuses that I wanted gone are still there and it seems Microsoft considers them features (worst of all the lack of file manager, system wide or not).

This doesn't help me (as an Android user for mobiles) to shift towards the Microsoft ecosystem, especially now that Google is pushing really hard with good hardware, low prices and great functionality - see the NEXUS 4.

Anonymous, 29 Oct 2012you would rather have a feature and not use it than not hav... moreNot if it means having a bad user experience.
The main criticism against the old WIndows Mobile 6.5 devices was that there was too inconvenient and plagued by problems despite the OS having an abundance of very advanced features. IOS got popular really quickly because they streamlined the user experience and in order to do that they stayed away from features no one really used.
Today, Android is becoming more and more like the old Windows Phone OS, both in features, appearance and how it handles. But just because it's Google everyone applauds them. For doing what Microsoft where critisized for many years ago. I find that very amusing.

Very disappointed about no Bluetooth file transfer..I was really looking forward to wp8,,but that is a deal breaker..I'll stick with Droids for now..i agree with other comments,,it's aimed more for ios uses to change,,not Android...

Ugly ui , no true multitasking , no true Bluetooth , no true fike manager , lower resolution and gpu support , closed system , direct x in mobiles is far less than open gl and direct 3d of ios and android , however ios may die soonly but android will never die because of google and the huge capabilities and open system and true multitasking and very customizable os sorry guys but true story

windows phone software is still in premature mode.
I'll rather look at an windows based smartphone a year later.
even surface RT fails to impress because of the same..
the only winner is the surface pro for it compatibility with x86 apps and as GSMArena said it is gonna blur the boundaries between tablet and laptop

I've been fooling around with my sisters windows phone, on the htc radar. Windows phone>>>>>>>>>>> Android. Sorry guys. It's just a far more quality os then android. Sure 4.2 came out today, but really, windows 8 is better then android. IN the future it will be windows vs ios, just like in the pc wars. Trust me guys. they say in 5 years there will be more windows phone users then ios, however I think it will be windows users cutting into the android users.

First paragraph aboutiOS is golden ( stagnated, shot itself in the foot with maps !!!) HAHA!!

Looking at the features , it is clear that WP8 is more of a threat to iOS running devices than to Android running devices , due to its closed ecosystem.
Note that I am ,not in anyway ,implying that a closed ecosystem is a bad thing.

I am instead implying that Apple screwed it big time.
