So in my opinion 10.1 inches suits you better if you will be taking lenghty notes.
Multitasking e.g opening browser and note taking app together is also better experienced on larger screen.
In terms of portability I guess you will be carryin it in backpack etc so will not make much difference unless you want to carry it in large coat pocket.
Battery life will be better in 10.1
