i bought the galaxy s9 plus snapdragon (t-mobile) in 2023 few months ago.
everything was good for me about the phone.the camera is okay...not too good not bad either but i installed gcam 8.1 which make the camera great.the phone run soo fluid better than alot of midrange phone I've seen,i play PUBG on smooth graphics and extreme fps and fps is very stable.the only time the fps fluctuate is when i hotdrop even that it just little that i rarely notice it. strong connectivity, display is great, speaker too is good.

but the only issue am facing is battery drain when it idle and even when it swith off and am suspecting is a bug,cuz on usage it doesn't drain battery as you'll think it wil if you're to judge it base on how it drain on idle.i got 4hrs to 4hrs 30min SOC.always on display is of my wifi and location are always turn of but i dont know why.i check the battrry stat in device care,at first i suspect it google play service as it was always on top in battery usage with 17-20% battery usage, but i monitor it and work on it now it use less than 7% battery usage in batery stat.

everything seem okay according to the battery stat but still the idle batery drain is there.my last resort am thinking now is to flash new firmware on it maybe that will stop the idle battery drain.pls anyone that experience same thing,i want to know if flashing new firmware will solve my issue or not.

Anonymous, 02 Nov 2023Please is this phone really worth it as a primary phone for... moreI still use this phone today and I have no issues with it, obviously it can only go up to Android 10, won't receive any more security updates, long as you ease on the side of caution your probably going to be fine. (e.g. opening unknown files from email, downloading random things off the internet.) Then you might be at risk, personally I use a VPN to block ads, trackers and unwanted malware this help with security. Some enthusiasts android users root their phones to the newer versions. Very few people actually get their phones hacked.

I have the S 9 plus 128gb from 3th October 2018 until now. I never hold for 5 years the same phone.Maximal 3 years later I changed with a new model.
S 9 plus have a very nice screen and a very fast and multi working processor.
Negative was the battery power...Very nice day photos but not the same in dark, and also by zooming.Problems with microphone by open free talking, maybe because of water.Anyway I pay 500 euros new and it was a good buy ....and still works with Android 11....

Multiple vertical green lines in screen after 3 years usage, so disappointing from a company like Samsung.

                    Yet another correction...

To open PowerShell through the right-click drop-down menu, and to show the option to open a PowerShell command prompt in the current folder, you have to hold SHIFT while right-clicking on an empty space in the target folder.

Hopefully this will be the last correction.

vjx012, 16 Sep 2023In my comment below I typed some wrong info. First I wro... moreCrap, my edit time expired.

                      One more very important correction:

To sideload the file from your computer using USB cable if you don't have any spare MicroSD cards, you first need to do the following in recovery mode:

                      1. Connect your phone to your computer.
                      2. Reboot your phone into recovery.
                      3. On the starting recovery mode screen on your phone, select "Apply update" then "Apply from ADB".
                      3. Open the PowerShell window as described by my comment instructing you how to install LineageOS.
                      4. Type adb, press TAB, and it will autofill ".\adb.exe", press SPACE, type sideload and press SPACE, type the correct prefix of the file you want to flash (ie. type "lineage" and press TAB for LineageOS and type "mindthe" then press TAB for MindTheGapps).
                      5. Press ENTER.
                      6. Wait 2-3 minutes for LineageOS file and about a minute for MindTheGapps.
                      7. Reboot to system.

Ignore the percentage shown in the PowerShell command prompt, it doesn't matter if it's stuck and doesn't increase, rather you should look at your phone and it will show you the status of flashing the zips. Once it returns you to the starting screen, or if it doesn't say "failed" anywhere (if memory serves right "Status 0" means success) it means you succeeded in flashing the file.

You have to manually choose the option "Apply from ADB" for every file you flash since it exits ADB flashing mode automatically once the flashing is done; in the case of LineageOS and MindTheGapps, you'll have to repeat the process twice.

Here's how the commands would look with the latest zips at the time of writing:

                      .\adb.exe sideload .\lineage-20.0-20230914-nightly-star2lte-signed.zip
                      .\adb.exe sideload .\MindTheGapps-13.0.0-arm64-20221025_100653.zip

Again, just in case you missed my warning in my first comment as "Anonymous": first flash LineageOS and only then MindTheGapps. If you mess up and flash MindTheGapps first, format the system partition and flash the files in the correct order.
If you forget to flash MindTheGapps and reboot to system with only LineageOS flashed, you must reenter recovery mode and format both data and system partitions then repeat the process (flash LineageOS again then MindTheGapps); if you flash MindTheGapps after the system booted without it, it will likely result in force-closes of Google Play Store and accompanying services.

Anonymous, 16 Sep 2023Actually, if you are willing to put in some work in it, AND... moreIn my comment below I typed some wrong info.

                        First I wrote:

"Copy flashable zips into that folder, right click anywhere empty inside the platform-tools folder, select PowerShell, type adb (it will autofill .\adb.exe), press TAB..."

It should say "type adb, press TAB and it will autofill .\adb.exe".

And one more correction. I wrote:

"After flashing LineageOS and MindTheGapps, you can boot into system: on the starting screen, select "Advanced", then select to reboot to system."

The option to reboot to system is located in the starting screen of recovery mode (the one with options "Apply update", "Factory reset" and "Advanced": that option is named "Reboot system now" - it's the first option.

Prashant, 07 Aug 2023Go with S9 Plus if you don't need latest Android versi... moreActually, if you are willing to put in some work in it, AND if you have an Exynos S9+ (Exynos 'cause Snapdragon's bootloader cannot be unlocked thus no custom ROM) you can:

                          * Have the latest Android 13 with latest features and security patches
                          * Get weekly OTA software updates
                          * Have a secure internal memory despite the unlocked bootloader because internal memory is encrypted and can only be accessed if the phone is just turned on by entering your passphrase/PIN/pattern (which means even with access to internal memory the data is useless without knowing your unlock phrase/pattern)

                          How?
Install latest LineageOS build! LineageOS is a forked of once popular CyanogenMod and is currently at version 20 with Android 13. Not only is your internal memory encrypted, and is compiled with latest Android security patches every week, not only does the launcher bundled with it (Trebuchet) allow you to hide any app and even lock it behind your preferred screenlock method and whatever biometric security method you set up, it even gives you the option to disable USB connections unless the phone is unlocked (Settings -> Privacy -> Trust -> Restrict USB). And SELinux is enforcing by default.

It has built-in key remapper, and while it doesn't offer much remap options, it does give you, for example, thr ability to turn on torch while the screen is locked by holding the power button, or use the Bixby button for something useful (it's called Menu button in LOS), or double tap the Home and Recents navigation bar button (I like to set double-tap home to launch second-to-last app window in recents so I can switch between two last used apps instantly), and as cherry on top you can configure volume keys to move the cursor left/right as well as customize the power menu (the window that pops up by holding the Power button) to allow you to reboot directly into Recovery, Download or Fastboot mode.

                          How to do this?

First, turn on the phone. Go to settings. Then scroll down until you see About phone and tap it. Then tap Software information then tap the Build number 7 times until a toast appear informing you you've enabled Developer mode. Now go back and you'll find Developer options below About phone. There will be an "OEM Unlocking" option toggled off. Tap it to toggle it on. Confirm you want the bootloader unlocked in the window that popped up. WARNING: this WILL factory-reset the phone, wiping everything, including internal storage.
Your phone will now reboot. Wait a minute or two until it boots up and a welcome screen appears. Your bootloader won't be unlocked unless you allow the phone to boot fully after toggling OEM Unlocking on.

Now go to your computer. If you haven't already installed 7-Zip, go to ninite.com, tick the 7-Zip option on the page, then open the downloaded Ninite installer file and allow it to install 7-Zip (you will need 7-Zip to create a .tar archive containing recovery.img). Create a working folder where you'll place all the files related to installing LineageOS for easy access. Download Odin from here and extract the archive into your working directory: https://odindownload.com/download/Odin3_v3.14.4.zip
You should now see a folder named Odin3_v3.14.4 where Odin is placesld.

                          Now go here: https://download.lineageos.org/devices/star2lte/builds
You need to download 2 files from the LineageOS link: recovery.img and the LineageOS .zip file (the corresponding .zip file contains the words "nightly-star2lte-signed.zip" at the end, with the words lineageos first, then version of LineageOS which is 20.0 at the time of writing and then it contains the year, the month and the date of compiling).

Place the recovery.img and LineageOS .zip into your working directory.
Righ-click the recovery.img, hover over 7-Zip, then click "Add to archive...". Select tar Archivr format and leave Compression method as GNU. Choose any mame you want then click OK. You should now have a additional .tar file in the same folder as recovery.img (it will be named recovery.tar if you didn't set a custom name.

Now get your USB cable ready and plug one end of it into your computer. Turn off your phone if it's turned on and wait 15-20 seconds after the screen turns off for it to fully turn off. Press and keep holding the Volume down + Bixby button then, while keeping tjose buttons pressed, press and keep holding the power button. When you see a light blue background with a warning message it means you've entered Download mode and you can release l all three buttons. Now press Volume up and you'll be greeted by the message "Downloadinhlg...". Now connect your phone to your computer.

Inside your working directory, go to Odin folder launch Ldon. Press OK when a window that contain chinese letters pop up. Now you'll be greeted by the main Odin window. Click "AP" and select the .tar archive. Now don't press Start immediately - the phone reboots right after flashing, and if you don't enter Recovery mode immediately, the phone will replace the flashed recovery with the default stock one. First get ready to keep holding three button as soon as you press Start: Volume up + Bixby + Power. Click Start and immediately press those three buttons. Keep holding them while the phone reboots until you enter a black-purple screen with letters proudly stating "RECOVERY" in pink letters in the upper center of the screen. Congratulations, you have entered Recovery mode!

Now there are two ways to install LineageOS: a MicroSD card, navigating to where the LineageOS .zip is located and selecting it, or by installing it through your computer via the USB cable using the "adb sideload ".

First, you need to delete EVERYTHING on your phone through recovery, including your system partition. Either use the Volume buttons to select options or tap it. Select "Factory reset", then select "Format data/factory reset", and then select "Format data". This will also wipe your cache partition. Skip the "Format cache" option, select "Format system partition", then select " Yes".

Now your phone is completely wiped and thus ready for LineageOS installation.

Now would be a good time to download Gapps (Google apps), which will install Google Play Store, which doesn't come preinstalled with LOS: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=14871746926876840643

Create a folder on your MicroSD card and put both the LineageOS and MindTheGapps .zip. You can insert MicroSD and the recovery will recognize it right away. Select "Apply update" and then select "Choose from Disk". Go to where you put the zips, and first select the LineageOS. If you accidentally select MindTheGapps first, format the system partition again and select to install update from disk, this time selecting LineageOS. It will take 2-3 minutes for it to install. After it's done, it will send you back to the main screen. DO NOT REBOOT YET, STAY IN RECOVERY MODE, otherwise you'll have no Play store and will have to format data and system again!
Next, flash the MindTheGapps .zip archive. This will go faster, about a minute or so.

For sideload, download platform-tools and extract it: https://android-sdk-platform-tools.en.uptodown.com/windows/download
Copy flashable zips into that folder, right click anywhere empty inside the platform-tools folder, select PowerShell, type adb (it will autofill .\adb.exe), press TAB, press space, type sideload then space again, then type lineage and press TAB, then ENTER. Same for MindTheGapps.

And that's it! After flashing LineageOS and MindTheGapps, you can boot into system: on the starting screen, select "Advanced", then select to reboot to system. If the option to reboot to system isn't preset, select the "Power off" option, wait some seconds until it completely turns off, then turn on your phone normally. Voila! That's all there is to it!
