Wow bought this 4g lte tab. It has earpiece too. So it's a giant phone too. Battery life is awesome too. We have come a long way guys in power consumption. So 5100mah is like 7000mah 5-10 years back. Screen is let down a bit. But I am not complaining. Got it 100usd too

I ran some more tests and it really appears like the A9 has a software bug currently.
No matter which accelerated hardware codec could be used by the system to reduce power consumption, it currently only works IF you force your video player software to enable hardware acceleration.
All other video player software which doesn't have this functionality only gets software accelerated which cost 50% more power per every watched hour...
Which is a very strange state of things.
I made a bug report to Samsung, hope we get a fix.
It can run with 6%/h but currently it runs with about 9%/h if you don't use video player software with a hardware decoder toggle option...
I hope it will soon run as smoothly as the A8 (2019) when it comes to video playback power consumption.

Note: if you want to use A9 for gaming, you would get frustrated because there are some "multitouch issues" when using A9 for gaming. But when using it for other functions, Tab A9 is just fine.

Though it has 1080p, Pova 5 has 6k mah battery, while my tablet only has 800p, it has much much larger screen lower battery capacity, its ram plus activated its max (4gb ram), brightness usage at least what I see on screen is at half, while my pova 5 has it on 1/6 brightness

shamesung, 25 Feb 2024still no casing for tab a9 from xundd or spigen. sadlyI already mailed Spigen, asking if there is one case to be expected in the next 2 months.
official reply was:
"Unfortunately, we currently don’t have definite plans to have a *Galaxy Tab A9 available at this time*. We apologize for the inconvenience.
However, your interest is very much appreciated, and we will be sure to pass it along to our developers for future consideration!"
*(was in bold) so who knows, how fast they can design one.

I dont know why the battery seems to last longer than my pova5 even though I use split screen most of the time with floating window from time to time. Yesterday I use this actively more than my pova 5 watching Youtube on the top while reading novels below and an idle game from time to time on floating window, while I use my pova 5 to play games on Lazada and Shopee which my time usage is around half compare to the tablet. I began around 95% battery on Pova 5 while 85% on Tab A9 both using mobile data, at 6PM when the electricity went back after a wholeday of brownout the Tab A9 still have 69% left while the Pova 5 had only 58%.... Hmmmm.

If it has hardware decoding either the G99 doesn't do it as efficiently as Qualcomm or for some reason does not kick in.
Even for other codecs run equally as bad in comparison even for software where you can't choose between hard and software decoding yourself!

just got mine buy 1 take 1 promo here in the Philippines via Samsung store in Lazada, 4/64 with LTE for only 9,740 pesos which is less than $200 so yeah this tablet is great because it has sim slot and microsd slot, played some games with low settings and mostly for movies and social media

I'd like to see Samsung do a 8.7" S -Series tablet. Maybe one like the S-Series fe to help keep the cost down.
I recently purchased a S9 11" wi-fi for myself. I pre-ordered it, came with S-Pen and the keyboard cover. I feel this tab is too small for a keyboard cover.
I got my dad a S9FE5G for probably about $400. That was a out as cheap as I could find one. It's got 6gb/128gb RAM/ROM. It also doesn't have the Snapdragon processor, any of the 3. It has the Exynos1380. I'm not a gamer, so I don't notice any difference in the processors. The main difference is the fe has an LCD screen, while the S9 11" has an AMOLED screen. Again, I can't t see the difference.
If I did it over, I'd get 2 S9fe's.
As for the 8.7" "S-Series" I would think more along the lines of the fe. Not quite "top of the line" but a step above the A-Series. I'd say the Exynos processor, 6/128, with an LCD screen. I'd pay $400.

One not so cool discovery.
I've noticed a worse performance for decoding MPEG4 AVC than for the Tab A8 (2019).
In playback power usage for HEVC video they are even but for the old MPEG4-AVC the A9 performs 50% worse at the same brightness settings, resulting in 18% power draw in 2h.
The Tab A8 (2019) gets along with 12% for MPEG4-AVC in 2h.
Before I enabled power saving the A9 (2023) even consumed 25% of the battery under MPEG4-AVC in 2h....
