Samsung plans to provide VR streaming for the 2018 Winter Olympics

Yordan, 15 March 2017

Samsung Electronics wants to take sports fans to a new level of engagement with virtual reality live streams directly from the slopes of Pyeongchang during the Olympic Games in the Korean city next year. Today, Samsung representatives met with the Information and Communication vice-minister and delegates of LG along with members from telecoms SKT and KT.

Samsung provided a similar service for the Olympics in Rio last summer, enabling VR headset users to view exclusive coverage of sports. The big difference that the company wants to make is a live stream of the events - something that can happen if there is robust and sufficient 5G network.

If Samsung and KT manage to carry this out, they could be the first in the world to do so.

5G network for the sake of Olympic? Why not. You techy people go do your stuff. I just want to enjoy the 5G, minus the olympic.
