Asus ROG Phone 6 One Of The Worst Games Ever Edition

mexicanparrot, 04 Mar 2024Stop being ignorant on purpose, there is nothing more annoy... more"This phone was released in the year 2022 were the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was not released."

The 8 Gen 2 was launched 3 days before this phone came out, and manufacturers were able to test it long before that date.

"compare it to other 2022 flagships and you will see many of them used the Samsung fab regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which overheats."

Why are you comparing this to phones that released several months earlier? There had been plenty of other 8+ Gen 1 phones months in advanced before this thing came out.

"The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 made under the superior TSMC fab is still a great chip even today."

I'm not denying that it was a good chip. But to cripple a gaming phone by using it when cheaper non-gaming phones are going to launch with the 8 Gen 2 in mere days? That's the worst move you could ever pull.

You cannot argue with me on this. The SoC is by far the most important thing for gaming and a "gaming" phone without the best SoC is a pointless joke. Especially at $1400. That price is outrageous for such a garbage phone. No active cooling or the latest and greatest SoC at that price?

This phone was released in the year 2022 were the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was not released. Being objective, compare it to other 2022 flagships and you will see many of them used the Samsung fab regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 which overheats. The Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 made under the superior TSMC fab is still a great chip even today.

joe nodden, 04 Dec 2023"I think you never had an Asus Rog phone, or dont unde... moreMy post was mostly showing the Rog 6 Pro vs all iphones and most non-gaming phones as well as some competitor gaming phones.

The haptic air triggers are not a gimmick. Play COD mobile for 1 hour with and without haptic and you will understand. No more crab/claw fingers covering the entire screen, nor any finger cramping. You rest your Rog 6 Pro (or any ROG with the air triggers) and it fits naturally. You only use your thumbs to touch the screen which means you can multi-task using the air triggers at the top. You cant do that on an iphone.

The notch... Most modern phones and all iphones now have an ugly notch or island or bubble eating up a chunk on the top of the phone vertically or left side when holding horizontally. Yes the next ROG might be adding a notch which is really stupid design. But this ROG 6 Pro has no notch. They used a micro bevel and hid the camera in there which is off screen. So you lose no pixels and lose no touch functionality. You also dont sacrifice a camera using see through pixels.

Headphone jack, even you can not deny the need for that. And yes I have tried modern bluetooth. And yes bluetooth still sucks. And yes its still laggy. And yes it still wastes extra battery life from your phone and yes your wireless headphone/buds/speakers then need a charge as well instead of infinite power. And on top of that, you need to constantly pair the stupid thing instead of plug into an aux jack and play instantly. Sound quality is compressed with bluetooth. Deny it all you want, but even the best apple phones and best samsung phones rely on compressed, lossy sound quality because most people dont know that higher quality sound exists. We live in a streaming world and this younger generation growing up today have only ever heard sound and music via a sound source that is compressed not just once but multiple times before they hear it. It is sad. I am lucky to have grown up in the analogue 80s and yes I can hear the difference.

Overheating phones. Yes, even apple admitted their top of the line phones this year overheat, throttle and crash. Which means the thermal design sucks and it is not the same for all phones. This means you have never tried a ROG 6 Pro before. And it is understandable since it is a niche product and doesnt sell billions of phones. Someday you should try one and see what I am talking about. Run all the benchmarks on endourance mode where the same 3D tests are looped for 30 mins or multiple hours.. Compare VS whatever the latest iphone is and you will see. The performance on all iphones and non-gaming phones will look terrific on the first 5 mins which is just long enough to post bragging rights on social media. But then you will see a massive dropoff in performance between 5 to 10 mins and the loss in performance can be 40% or more. This is a scam if the phone company like apple is claiming that the benchmark performance score is for indefinite use. Compare this with the ROG 6 Pro and the drop off is less than 5% and then remains stable for hours and never drops off. Add on the ROG Aero Cooler (which came for free with my ROG 6 Pro) and you get higher performance and even less performance drop off. I think you never tried a gaming phone before. But it is understandable. I didnt know anything about this before I got this phone.

65 Watt charging speed is actually really great. ROG 6 Pro 6000Mah fully charged in 40 mins! And the charger is included! Apple is still selling their top of the line iphones with 30 watt charging speed and no charger in the box! Thats almost 2 hours to charge an iphone to 100%! Samsung is maxing out at 25 watts which is pathetic. Yes there are a few phones that have faster than 65 watts and a rare few have more than 6000Mah batteries and that is awesome on both counts! The only problem is those phones are missing out on the other awesome features (air triggers, faster touch response, 165hz refresh rate, superior thermal design, aux headphone jack, dual USB charge ports, no notch/island, etc).

All your other counter points were equally uneducated and wrong on almost every count. But these were the most off balance things you countered. Just try a ROG 6 Pro.

          What a long name

7, 03 Dec 2023I think you never had an Asus Rog phone, or dont understand... more"I think you never had an Asus Rog phone, or dont understand how it works vs regular phones and iphones."

It works the same as any other phone. It doesn't have any miracle design choices that enable it to be superior to other phones despite having an inferior chipset. It's just inferior.

"Rog phones are designed top to bottom for gaming performance"

Not this one with its inferior SoC. Doesn't even have a cooling fan like some others. Not that that would make up for the inferior SoC.

"That means super fast 65 watt charging"

Quite literally mediocre charging speed nowadays. There were 200W capable phones well before this launched.

"huge batteries (split into 2 so you charge faster, dissipate heat better)"

6000 mAh isn't massively different from other phones. Quite literally only a 20% increase from the typical 5000 mAh you see in other phones. There's 229 phones listed on this site with 6000+ mAh batteries. And dual batteries are nothing new.

            "highest quality sound"

Why would you use phone speakers if you were planning on gaming. I don't think I've ever tested the full volume of my LG V30's single speaker in the several years I've had it. Invest in a pair of headphones bro.

"headphone jack (zero lag and pure uncompressed sound vs any phone or iphone that uses laggy blutooth with compressed audio)"

I'm an advocate for headphone jacks, I really am. The quad DAC in my V30 was one of the best parts about the phone (until it kept getting dirt in the port and I just gave up and bought a pair of Bluetooth headphones.) But you're talking out of your rear end with those complaints. It's like you've never used Bluetooth.

"the ability to use and combine dual wifi connections with cellular for insane speeds, best performance, and minimal lag/jitter"

I feel like this is a feature I've seen someone before but I can't remember where so I'll give that one to you.

"and have CEOs that blame the end user for holding the phone wrong for lost connections"

Complaining about something that happened 13 years ago? Wow talk about grasping at straws.

"all internal motherboard/CPU/GPU layout thermally designed for maximum speed, maximum cooling, and for endurance with minimal or zero thermal throttling even during hours long gaming sessions or normal use (vs iphones and regular phones that are just mashed together and thermal throttle after 5 to 10 minutes)"

No? It doesn't even have active cooling, bud. And phones only have thermal throttling issues when they've got a terrible inefficient SoC and/or no copper heat pipes, vapor chambers or anything.

"haptic air triggers (no regular phones or iphones have this)"

Congrats on your gimmicky gaming buttons. 90% of games are still gonna have those buttons showing up on screen.

"dual USB C connectors so you can charge on one while using the other to connect to multiple devices including an external monitor, keyboard, mouse, controller, external hard drives, or external fan that unlocks even more performance out of the phone"

An external monitor? For what? Playing games? Are you gonna drag a monitor around with you? No. Get a PC bud. Keyboard and mouse? For all those mobile games that don't support a keyboard and mouse? Or so you can compete against mobile "gamers" stuck with on-screen controls? Wouldn't even be fun. A controller? Bluetooth controllers exist if you're that desperate to charge, use a controller and game at the same time. An external fan? Wouldn't need one if it was made properly.

"vs iphones and regular phones that have just 1 USB and nothing more than regular charging"

No, not just regular charging. They can do everything you just listed. And with a splitter cable they can do everything you just listed while charging.

Rog phones are designed top to bottom for gaming performance. Except this does not have "the same snap8 gen2", it has an inferior 8+ Gen 1. So it is worse at gaming than cheaper non-gaming phones.

this rog device are like functionality and form goes together. like ntfs external storage support.. it still wouldnt replace sd cards though.

Anonymous, 28 Dec 2022Gaming phones in general always have better cooling than no... moreActive cooling helps but a better SoC with no active cooling will almost always be a better choice if you want the best performance. Look at the performance tests of phones like the Legion Y90 with infernos of chips like the SD 8 Gen 1 and active cooling. Those dinky little fans may help a bit but they aren't gonna keep an inefficient chip cool enough to outperform a phone with the 8+ Gen 1 that doesn't even overheat in phones without active cooling. I mean that also makes active cooling make less sense in this phone.

And the triggers are a gimmick. If you wanted good controls you wouldn't be on a phone in the first place, or you'd be using a controller.

TLDR, both the things you mentioned are just jury-rigged half solutions to major problems.

I mean seriously this phone is the biggest flop ever. Only 11 favorites after a month and a half of it being out. 😂 It's almost like people want gaming phones that aren't worse at gaming than non-gaming phones that don't cost $1300.
