We were left with no choice - if you want 4k@60fps, take flicker AMOLED models, and this is only available in above-average by price models.

It is very sad that there is no global firmware(most languages) and support for all 4G frequencies in different countries. Sales for this model would then increase 1000 times.

I had an Xiaomi mi10T Pro with a snapdragon 865 and it get head up very fast , its a powerful cpu but not good for normal phone with basic dissipation cooler in a long term it will slowly kill the phone , the dimensity is way better optimised for "normal phone" especialy with a good gpu combined.

My xiaomi started to heat up more and more after 1-2 years of use and killed my battery and finaly the motherboard.

Even when i just put it on charge the phone heat up.

I love IPS screens and i will never touch an Amoled again.

My dream phone would be the japanese Sharp Aquos but its very expensive so i will stay with the Z8 for the moment and see whats it is.

BMHater12, 11 Feb 2024Well, if you own a China model Xiaomi, you can still unlock... moreThis Xiaomi, not Vivo. According to owner reviews, Vivo refuses to unlock the bootloader at the owner's request, unlike Xiaomi.

Secondly, this is not a very popular model outside of China, so finding an alternative firmware for it, like for popular Xiaomi models, and even more so, stable and with support for all hardware will initially not be a trivial task. Especially with support for Band 20 LTE for communication outside cities. Because in China this band is prohibited in the firmware - there this frequency is not allowed for use.

The terrible thing is that this is actually the last(?) model with an IPS screen without flicker PWM on OLED, which also supports 4k@30(60?)fps video and OIS.

We were left with no choice if you don't want to ruin your eyesight with a flickering OLED screen.

I've got the unit for a month now, runs most things great. Camera is great. Supports 4K 60fps for the said price, great stabilization and great photos. Photos do have post-processing, and it's visible when zooming in the camera and viewing the photo results. Capturing in low light takes quite some time, but produces bright colors. Usually blurs though when you've got unstable hands.
I've tested the unit with various games and different use cases. Genshin does pretty well, even at highest graphics, though frame drops can be seen later, but can be fixed with cooling. Playing Bandori and Project Sekai with 3DMV have visibly lower frame rate. Playing MLBB with video call have stuttering, in frames and audio. Onmyoji Arena, D4DJ (at start only of live) and Snowbreak have random hiccups. Newer event stages (most large-sized areas) in Arknights is frame-capped to 30. Osu!Lazer does not run well (yet). Did not test emulators. Most other games tested can run well at their highest frame rate supported at max graphics.

Eric20, 16 Jan 2024This phone does support many LTE bands in UK and Germany an... morePC/laptop owners can still almost control hardware (but all PC/laptops have a hidden Intel ME/AMD PSP coprocessor for more than 10 years, which control your hardware in an undocumented mode and the owner does not know who really has access to them equipment), but even there everything is quickly moving towards blocking full access (the so-called “SafeBoot” mode, which in reality is more leaky than a colander) with the connivance of the illiterate population and their elected authorities.

If you don't have full control over your property, you lose the ability to change software and firmware the way you need it. And this is essentially a digital concentration camp.

That is why buying Chinese smartphones blocked by access to boot and root rights is essentially a pointless undertaking until an exploit is found to break this protection and easily install an alternative firmware where all the necessary functions will work, thanks to the efforts of enthusiasts. And of course, this is associated with security problems if you install such firmware without a proper audit of their code. Everything is based on trust, both with manufacturers (who have been caught illegally spying on users more than once) and with developers of alternative firmware.

I personally tinkered with alternative firmware for more than a month before I managed to configure the smartphone for China to the extent I needed. The majority of the planet's population is simply not capable of this due to the lack of necessary competencies. Therefore, they will have to use Chinese firmware without any alternative, with all the ensuing sad consequences.

And you need to know and remember this BEFORE purchasing Chinese smartphones without global firmware and without the ability to unlock the bootloader and get root access rights in the firmware.

In fact, this manufacturer tells you in plain text - “you are not the owner of a smartphone, even if you paid money for it. We are the owners of a smartphone, even when it is in your hands".
But the majority of the population, due to illiteracy, easily comes to terms with this totalitarian policy of manufactures of smartphones.

The model under discussion does NOT have global firmware and never will. This is a model for China, and in China, frequencies that are prohibited for use are intentionally disabled. And this is locked into the firmware and cannot be configured in any way, without replacing the modem driver (or its configuration configuration files), but for this you need at least root access and an unlocked boot loader to change the firmware to an alternative one.

Jbond, 16 Jan 2024Chinese firmware will never support the extended frequencie... moreThis phone does support many LTE bands in UK and Germany and other European countries. It is not 100%, but usable.

Only for North America, the LTE/5G support is poor. Most of the antennas are the same for LTE bands. Only needs to be enabled in the modem which they don't do for various reasons.

It is incorrect to say that China bans these frequencies as the flagship phones like Xiaomi 13T(same Dimensity 8200) supports all the bands.

AMRP69, 21 Nov 2023In this Price U Can't find Anything Better than this PhoneUnfortunately, there are no models left on the global market with an eye-safe IPS screen in the middle and high price ranges (where there is video recording in 4k@60fps and even 8k with OIS) and in the lower segment, alas, IPS is also gradually being replaced by flickering AMOLED panels that are dangerous to the eyes. Therefore, people who are sensitive to flicker of AMOLED panels have no alternative, especially if they need a luxurious photo/video camera with maximum capabilities that are missing in this segment of smartphones. It’s sad, but 8 years ago there was already video recording 4k@30fps in smartphones for $100-120 (real prices for 2015 models after 1 year), but now this is the lot of models only from $200, the dollar has apparently already depreciated by 2 times in 8 years , since prices have increased exactly 2 times for the same functionality that they had 8 years ago...
