Vodafone roadmap leaks Nokia, HP, Blackberry, Palm

06 Jan, 2008

A number of spanking new devices were leaked in a Vodafone 2008 Roadmap presentation. The expected devices include the Nokia successors of E61i and E65, the Blackberry successor of Pearl, a Blackberry 8xxx, two new HP devices, and finally a couple of Palm handsets.

The guys over at boygeniusreport.com posted the slides of a 2008 Vodafone devices roadmap, which is cheesier than anything other news we've heard this holiday season. Let's not waste any more time and plunge into it as there are a lot of devices.

We start of with two Nokia smartphones powered by the Symbian OS. The first one called Nokia Dora or Nokia E66 is the alleged successor of Nokia E65. The second one is supposed to replace the E61i in the QWERTY messenger lineup and is called Nokia Liam or Nokia E71. Seems like a recently leaked photo of the supposed Nokia EXX confirms at least one of the boygenius leaked slides. You would notice however that the specs of the Dora incorrectly copy the ones of the Nokia Liam - the square 320 x 320 pixel display quoted for Nokia Liam is pretty much out of place on the Nokia Dora specs sheet.

Next in line we see a couple of interesting Blackberry devices. The first one is dubbed Blackberry 8110 (Pearl 2). It's got GPS, but there's no Wi-Fi in sight. Anyways it's expected to be released as soon as January 2008.

The second expected device is the Blackberry 8xxx, which was rumored as the Blackberry 9000 in the past. It will be the Blackberry flagship armed with both GPS and Wi-Fi and a large 480 x 320 pixel display. The Blackberry addicts however will be disappointed at the exchange of the proprietary SureType keyboard for a full QWERTY one. The Blackberry 8xxx is expected in May 2008.

HP have been stalling for a while now with their mobile phone series, however it seems they will be going full-steam-ahead in 2008. According to the leaked information, they will offer the HP Silver Windows Mobile smartphone in July which will be armed with both Wi-Fi and GPS and will come with a Blackberry-style SureType keyboard.

The HP Oak will again be Windows-powered, however this time we are talking a PocketPC with keyboards, GPS and Wi-Fi. The HP Oak is expected in September 2008.

Vodafone will also be selling two Palm smart devices based on Windows Mobile. The first one is codenamed Palm Drucker. Complete with WinMo Pro, GPS and Wi-Fi, it should be available by July 2008.

The second Palm device is the Palm Wanda will be a successor to the Palm 500 v. It will be running Windows Mobile Standard but armed with an integrated GPS receiver it doesn't sound like a bad deal. The Palm Wanda will be available in September 2006.

And finally, we have an ODM device that will be sold exclusively under the Vodafone mobile brand. It's a low-end sleek QWERTY messenger that comes equipped with a GPS receiver. It's expected in September 2008.

Nokia is on the way making the phones smaller. The E61i is in my opinion to big. The E71 will have the dimensions of an actual Blackberry (it looks like one) and could be more successfull.

i am a nokia e61i user, and i quite love the phone for its features and user abilities, though there were short comings like the lack of GPS and also the slow processor and the small ram(45 mb is to small). the e71 seems to have covered that but i...
