Still rocking this phone on 2024 using Ressurection Remix 5.8.5 on Android 7.1. Phone gets hot fairly quick. Tweak the cpu freq in both big and little cores will reduce the excessive heat.

Mine for easily overheat of I try one of those even just for few seconds. This device isn't made for those. Still, I appreciate fellow owner still sharing experiences. For anyone who's still wondering if this device is still adequate for these days, no, it's not. Unless what you do just basic phone call and SMS, with few very long light browsing or WhatsApp, telegram, it might hold, otherwise, it doesn't. I've changed the screen, got better with sharp lcd 75hz, swapped battery with OEM, install latest unofficial lineage, still, little hope to withstand nowadays apps.

My Mi 4c has been rolling for 5 years now. Specs are insufficient here. It has OTG support and can record video up to 4K@30FPS and 720P@120FPS.

Update 5 months on... + The portability ... moreContemplating a newer Xiaomi... just to have more security updates, but my Mi4c still works and is more than enough, to be honest... changed the battery once, the glass has not a single mark on it, in daily use since it came out!

                  Mi4c in 2021.
                  Update 5 months on...

+ The portability of the Mi4c really is fantastic; it's comfortable to use one-handed with no strain at all.

+ It's fairly durable, too, having been through a few drops already with only cosmetic damage to the plastic back, which is very easy to replace.

+ I installed LineageOS 16/Android 9 and many apps that I need to run day-to-day are working perfectly. Performance is snappy.

+ The IR blaster has been an unexpected hit! It's been rather handy.

+ The selfie camera is in the correct position at the top of the screen, unlike my previous Mix 2S. Video calls are a dream.

Sadly, this is where the praise ends. While the phone is powerful enough to run most of the applications I need, other aspects of the phone let it down.

                  - I didn't realise just how much I relied on a snappy camera. Not one that takes professional photos with all the bells and whistles, just a reliable one that can capture the moment and not capture a blurry mess. It's been rather disappointing. I've taken a few stunning pictures, but only when the light was perfect, my hand was steady and the subject still. The problem is that other phones are capable of this every time, when the stars haven't aligned. It's just tiring.

                  - The Mi4c was intended for the Chinese market and it's perhaps for that reason that I've had such a problem with my network connection. I don't live in a great place for LTE, but my previous Mix 2S was far more reliable. It's disappointing when my mobile internet works only in certain places in my town, depending on which hill I've climbed.

While many apps do work, others don't. Now, this isn't a problem with the Mi4c directly, rather a fact of life of using LineageOS on a daily driver. And because I didn't put in the hours to get everything to work, I've got an incomplete phone, with some secure apps not working and bugged GPS. I reiterate though - this isn't a direct fault with either the Mi4c or LineageOS, rather my own sloppy work earlier this year.

I will still attempt to rectify this last problem by working a bit on the LineageOS front, but I'm not sure whether I can recommend the Mi4c as a daily driver.

I'm curious to see whether others have had the same problems and have come to similar conclusions.

I must not be the target customer for any smartphone company.

~ I want a reasonably sized phone. 6 inches was too big.
                        ~ I don't want to spend a month's wages to buy one.
                        ~ I don't need four cameras.
                        ~ I do need a headphone jack.
~ I want to be able to replace the battery myself.
~ I don't care about prestige; it doesn't need an Apple logo.

The only closest to this is Zenfone 8 now, but it's a flagship. The only turn down is the price.

I downgraded from the Mi Mix 2S to this phone and installed LineageOS 16 / Android 9 on it which is enough for my use case. Works fantastically; I'm very satisfied.

~ Mi Mix 2S was far too big and heavy.
~ I felt that the bezel-less design just meant unwanted touches on the screen around the edges.
~ I don't take too many photos and don't play games at all on my device. My usage is more just calling, messaging, reading and watching YT.
~ The only new device which was ≤5" was the iPhone SE, but at $400 it did not seem worth it.

Either you flash the latest firmware without unlocking bootloader, that way you get Nougat, or go unlock bootloader after that, go to wjxxbsh GitHub, and install Lineage OS 17.1 Android 10. Most cons are still around (the hot, etc), but it runs on Android 10 without MIUI.

                                Pros :
                                a. Good IPS display

                                c. Best Camera in price range
                                d. Lollipop still very snappy
                                e. Snappier keyboard than my Docomo's
                                f. Compact and thin on your palm
                                g. Better signal reception than my Docomo's

                                i. Audio jack and infrared

                                Cons :
                                a. 16GB storage without expansion
                                b. Aging battery needs to be replaced at least 1 time
                                c. Mediocre battery life
                                d. Aging LTE speed, but still LTE nonetheless
                                e. Aging CPU and 7ckng HOT!!
                                f. Type C, but gen.1

2020 still worth? Ofc no.. Try looking a used flagship one from 2017. This phone is more like a trophy for someone who buy at the right time in the past because how good and cheap it is..

Now I use it for Gmaps. My god, its very very accurate!! Maybe I flashed it with a right firmware for my country (7.1.4.0 LXKCNCK).

Aside for Gmaps, i use it as a hotspot and uses a cheap internet provider ($7 for 50GB a month).
