ZTE Axon 10 Pro's 20x hybrid zoom demoed
ZTE has already listed the Axon 10 Pro 5G for pre-order on JD.com, and now the company took it to Weibo to showcase the capabilities of one of the biggest features of its flagship - the 20x hybrid zoom. In a blog post, the company posted a series of images going from the ultra-wide-angle mode through the regular and then going telephoto at 5x, 10x and 20x.
ZTE Axon 10 Pro 1x • 3x • 5x • 10x • 20x zoom
Much like other smartphone companies, ZTE is playing the marketing game here. The 3x zoom is actually a photo from the regular camera with a 48 MP sensor as 1x is the ultrawide angle lens. Then the telephoto lens kicks in to bring you to 10x and then it's digital zoom to 20x.
Shanghai landmarks taken with 20x zoom
The Axon 10 Pro, along with its 5G sibling, has a 48 MP f/1.7 main shooter, coupled with an 8 MP f/2.4 telephoto lens, while the ultra-wide-angle sensor is 20 MP f/2.2.

5x looks nice 10x doesn't looks nice. And 20x is awful. Why didn't they market it as 3x times zoom, because the 20x zoom doesn't impress me at all.

you are actually correct, about bird photo for example first you need a huge sensor that can get a good exposure at any shutter speed also then you need a highly adjustable shutter speed and diaphragm! which it is just not possible to have on a phone...
