Anonymous, 18 Dec 2023I'd really buy this if ZTE stopped playing around and ... moreRight, this thing is pretty much perfect till you get to no SD card. I was thinking it was going to be my next phone. I guess I'll have to miss out on the flat back, bigger battery, and IRblaster and go for a Sony instead.

    Does this have unlockable bootloader?

RM8 Pro - standard bootloader unlock command works (fastboot bootloader unlock/unlock_critical)

RM8S Pro - officially not unlockable anymore (redmagic support claims they no longer allow this). It is chip compatible with RM8 Pro though, ie you unofficially flash abl.img for RM8 Pro, to get unlock working again.

RM9 Pro - Can an owner of one test whether standard unlocking works (ie same as RM8 Pro - adb reboot bootloader + fastbloot unlock)?

RM9 is not RM8 chip compatible, ie abl.img workaround isn't possible.

Guys, I once used a phone with 2k display and changed to a phone with FHD+. I can notice the pixel on the FHD+ screen. They were both 6.8 inch. Remember, OLED requires high DPI due to the subpixel layout.

if anyone wants to see dozen of camera shots comparison with some other flagships & also multi reviews all in one place, the channel "nubia_z_series" on telegram has compiled there

NeonHD, 18 Dec 2023Why would you seek out information if you aren't clear... moreYes you're right, most can and will, you'll get better results with a 10 bit/12 bit panel even at thw same resolutions but you will see better clarity.

Youre using 2k wrong though, 2k is just 1080p (1920x1080), im guessing you mean QHD (2560x1440 in the 16:9 aspect ratio) which again you can see a diference between the 2 resolutions at even phone sizes.

Dont know why chinese companies and others use the 2k marketing rubbish, 2560 in any mathimatical law would be rounded up to the nearest "whole number" that being 3000 (3k) and the vertical value of QHD is 1440 which would be rounded down to 1000. (5 and up, round up, below 5 you round down). Also QHD (2560x1440 16:9, 2560x1600 16:10 or 3440x1440 21:9) doesnt fit in to 4k either but it does divide perfectly in to 720p (which QHD is 4 times the resolution of 720p), only 1080p perfectly fits its ratio in to 4k, no decimal number needed you come to a whole round number.

1920 doubled is 3840 so 4k, and 1080 doubled is 2160, so 4k, 4k is 4 times the resolution of 1080p, 2k doubled is 4k so it means 2k is the correct term for "FullHD/1080p" (2000 pixels, 1920 would be rounded up to 2000 like 3840 is rounded up to 4000 "4k")

Ravenowl, 26 Nov 2023That's complete BS and you know it. You can't see... moreNo what they say is completely right, an HD screen (720p screen) is hideous to look at at even phone screen sizes, very very noticeable. Also you can very easily tell a 1080p screen vs a QHD screen running at QHD, i can notice my find X5 isnt as sharp as my old huawei p40 pro with a 1200p screen and my previous phone the pixel 6 pro (QHD) and if a sony phone was running at 4k you would notice small differences, its more the power consumption isnt worth slight quality increase at these sizes.

They are also right with the 440-450 ppi is a sweet spot, generally is (will give you just the right amount of clarity before diminishing returns happen). I would say though that a 10/12 bit panel with high brightness ability is also just as noticeable/important when you consider "quality", my phone for example is more pleasing to look at than my old pixel 6 pro purely because of more available colours (10 bit vs 8 bit on the pixel), having basically perfect colour accuracy is a major contributor.

Ravenowl, 26 Nov 2023That's complete BS and you know it. You can't see... moreWhile I overall disagree, your argument could have 𝙖𝙩 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙩 had some merit if it compared 1080P to 2K, but instead you chose to compare 1080P with 4K, which is a huge jump. There is a stupidly obvious difference between FHD and 4K, it doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

                > "𝙞𝙩'𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙫𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪"
Go ahead and continue to believe that, because really the only brain being fooled is yours. It is a psychological fact that people with rigid mindsets are less likely to notice the subtler details, as the brain often uses top-down processing when perceiving information. Ergo, your mindset must be rigid, and there's nothing wrong with that until you.

                > "𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮, 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣'𝙩 𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 1080𝙥 𝙖𝙣𝙙 4𝙆 𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙝 𝙖 𝙨𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙐𝙉𝙇𝙀𝙎𝙎 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘 𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨"
Realistically is the wrong word choice. There is nothing realistic about a subjective process. You see, your mind is quite a flexible system. During moments when you're more concentrated on the task at hand, when your attention is more focused on other things, or when you're busy engaging with your other senses, you're less likely to notice subtle visual details. I know this because my field of study was psychology. But during times when nothing is occupying your attention or your senses, you will notice

                > "400 𝙋𝙋𝙄 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙥 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙮𝙚"
It can be (as Apple supposedly proved a decade ago with their 326PPI standard), however this is contingent upon two factors:
                1) the display's pixel arrangement and 2) whether there is an anti-aliasing filter on board, either as a hardware or software implementation.
Firstly, displays with a 𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗲 pixel arrangement are the worst as they emphasize the "pixel-y" nature of the display. Stripe and diamond arrangements are better at hiding the pixels, so to speak. Secondly, anti-aliasing filters further help at blending the pixels (so to speak), which makes text and other fine details look more forgiving on low resolution displays.

Only under these two conditions will a 400PPI display look sharp without falling into pixel-y territory. I myself have noticed that some FHD phone displays (with similar PPI) appear more higher-res than others.

So there you go. Here is the REAL truth as opposed to your "pseudo-truth". I understand the overall point you're trying to make (1080p is more than enough), but to claim that the perceived sharpness of QHD is a placebo effect, while ignoring that the inability to perceive more than 400PPI may very well be psychological in origin too, seems like an even more BS argument from your side.

If you want to talk in purely objective, statistical terms, I would love to prove you wrong in this regard too, however sadly there has never been any research in this area. I greatly look forward to the first statistical study proving that most people can, in fact, notice the difference in QHD on their smartphones.

TL;DR Whether people can perceive the difference between FHD and 2K/4K phone displays greatly varies from person to person. However, for those that do notice the difference, it's real and not "fabricated from the brain" as you state.

Anonymous, 17 Dec 2023This is the information I've been looking for, so that... moreWhy would you seek out information if you aren't clear about it yourself? You do realize confirmation bias isn't a good thing, right?

Here's a curveball: what he's saying is also quite BS. Most people can tell the difference between 1080P vs 2K, let alone 1080P vs 4K. I admit there are some people who cannot tell the difference, perhaps because their mindset is more rigid/skeptical which alters their perception of things. However, for the majority that can see the difference, it is a big fat lie to say "it's merely a placebo", because it isn't.

In many ways this phone did not change one bit from the previous model, other than better chipset, better ultrawide, and bigger battery.

The cooling solution underperforms compared to previous generations.
The display is not among the brightest and does not support HDR video.
The software is still plagued by awkward English translations from Chinese.
Ultrawide and selfie cameras are still rather underwhelming.
All this from GSMArena review. Phone from China for China.
