Had been using this essential phone for 7 months now. I got it last October 2017, it was sluggish, not to mention poor camera. But after constant updates, then the update to oreo and camera updates like 2x/month, everything went smooth and I don't have any issues at all. I also have an iPhoneX for work but nah, the design and the handy-ness of ph-1 is so so superior than the X, probably even with all the latest notch copycats out there.

I am planning to trip to Japan for business. Trying to get more detailed information about this unlocked phone for connectivity in over seas such Japan and China.

My most important capability is to connecting Japan GSM frequency LTE FDD 18 and 19.
According to other website they were able to connect both channel but most website including official web doesn't have listed both channel.

Anonymous, 30 Apr 2018Hey guys. Essencial ph1 or nokia 7 plus or oneplus 5t? im h... morePH-1 has the absolute superior style and looks, but build quality is debateable unless Nokia cut corners to save cost on making the Nokia 7 Plus. Otherwise, Nokia should have the best build quality. OnePlus is just the trendy slim 18:9 ratio aluminium phone.

When it comes to camera, PH-1 has been improving A LOT, while the OnePlus 5t is great, but theres still better options. Nokia should have a more mature (dull colour) processing but MAY turn out great with high dynamic range.

Performance wise, OnePlus 5t and PH-1 should be quite similar in the benchmarks while Nokia 7 Plus will be a tad behind (as expected of a premium mid ranger).
However, pretty sure they will all be lag-free and battery efficient.
        [just my thoughts/opinions.]

Anonymous, 30 Apr 2018Hey guys. Essencial ph1 or nokia 7 plus or oneplus 5t? im h... moreWow, that's a really hard decision, but what do you really want? A mid-range phone or a high speed? If you choose the first you should definetly buy the "nokia 7 plus". It's excellent, looks beautifull and runs with android one, what allowed you fast and secure Updates.
By oneplus and Essential you should compare the price, because these two phones are very similar and choose the phone which you like more from the appearance. However, these 2 phones are very good and you do nothing wrong with your decision.

I've never had a phone with water resistance so I'm already pretty used to not having it. And I don't usually take photos at night anyway, so again, not a huge problem. I really enjoyed your detailed post and appreciate that you took the time to compose it. Thanks brother :)

Triscuit, 26 Apr 2018Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) or Essential PH-1? Both are pretty... moreIt's a toss-up between the PH-1 and the Galaxy A8. Both are very decent despite the negative press the PH-1 had, so in a nutshell it comes down to what you prefer. Run the comparison side by side, but in a nutshell:

PH-1 Advantages: build quality, screen size and resolution, performance (very snappy after the upgrade to 8.1), looks/design

Galaxy A8 Advantages: slim, light, decent performance, decent camera, IP68 rating, AMOLED screen (but lower pixel density than the PH-1).

To be honest, if at the same price I'd go for the Essential PH-1. It's a fantastic looking, high quality phone and it still has that unique factor... not to mention flagship performance at a bargain price. Lack of waterproofing and a poor-performance-in-low-light camera are it's biggest drawbacks and should be the deciding factors for you.

Samsung Galaxy A8 (2018) or Essential PH-1? Both are pretty much same price on 2 year carrier plan

Great phone , camera update improved it drastically . Low light performance is still not good, especially videoing. Heats up alittle after Oreo. Design and build quality is top notch. Feels very premium. Snappy operation , snappy camera, at 450, it’s well worth it.

I have the Essential Phone. I like it a lot, but note that its camera doesn't even compare to the S8, Note 8 or Google Pixel. The 128GB allows only 100GB for apps, pics, and files, but that is plenty (I currently only use roughly 15-30gb for apps/pics/files). One major concern is that the phone can't be repaired if broken, unlike the Samsung or Apple products. More on the positive side, the phone can be bought unlocked, so you have the option to negotiate between carriers if need be. All-in-all the price, data storage, and same processor as S8 make it worthwhile in my book.

So this phone is down to $350 at Amazon. I kind of wonder if Essential is in trouble as they've slashed the price a couple times in a couple weeks. Is this phone worth $350, lots of complaints from buyers on amazon, especially people on tmobile related to signal strength, aside from other issues unrelated to carrier.

Felt great after reading all the comments about this phone that nobody is complaining about the notch of this phone. Even in my own view, the notch of Essential Phone looks amazing as compared to any other phone currently available.

This phone compares to the $1200 phones at less than half the price. It is a wonderful phone. No issues and the company behind it is a real class act.

Just bought the phone couple days ago and upgraded to 8.1 OS. Loving it so far without major complaints.
However, I've noticed the touch screen responsiveness being slow or sometimes not responding at all when I text. I would have to push down harder to the screen before it responses.
Anyone else experiencing this issue or knows how to fix it? Or did I just get a lemon?
