Seahorse, 23 Feb 2018Here are the reasons not to buy a smartphone like the Essen... moreI also hate phone manufacturers removing headphone jack since it doesn't make phones any better at all, the meaningless change.
But the case of Essential is still excusable because they explained: they wish it could but cannot accommodate extra parts due to space limitation. In fact even the sim tray had to go to the bottom on this phone.

Here are the reasons not to buy a smartphone like the Essential which does not have a 3.5mm jack:

    1. Wireless earphones are expensive, have mediocre audio quality and batteries that requires regular charging or replacement.
    2. The USB-C earphone that is supplied with will only work with the phone and not other devices.
    3. When using a USB-C earphone, you cannot listen to music and charge the phone's battery at the same time.
    5. If you want to use an earphone that requires a standard 3.5mm jack, you will have to use an adapter. It is inconvenient to carry around and easily lost. They are not standard items that you can just go into a shop to get. You will have to buy one from the same manufacturer, probably with delay and at a steep price.
    6. You can wear out the USB-C socket by continually plugging and unplugging the earphone.
    7. If you play games on your phone in landscape mode with personal audio, the USB-C earphone will get in the way of your fingers.

After all that, there is not a single advantage in a phone without a 3.5mm jack, either in sound quality or space saving despite manufacturer's claims. The only reason seems to be in aping the iPhone and being thought cutting edge.

Well made phone with wonderful tactile feel with the ceramic back. Phone has been vastly improved in many ways since launch with frequent updates. I pulled the trigger on purchasing one recently and my gain was someone's loss, I bought at steep discount from original launch price. IMHO it is a great bargain today and Essential is frequently updating too, thanks- Essential, keep it up. Come on marketplace, buy one, you will love it I believe, like I do!

I moved from 8 years using iOS devices (the battery gate made me) to the EPH1.... My first Android experience... No regrets .. An excellent device.

Finally switched to android from always iphone user to Essential and couldn't be happier. It's fast and beautifully designed. Battery charges fast and last a day with no problem. Fits my hand perfectly. Multitasking is smooth. Camera is not as good as my previous iphone but you can install pixel software and it's great! The display is surprisingly good also. My only problem is that the phone is not waterproof as i go fishing a lot.

I just LOVE this phone. I am surprised by all the mixed reviews, I figure perhaps it's a QC manufacturing issue... In any case, the phone I received is superb. The thing is beautiful, extremely responsive, and the pure android experience is VERY GOOD. I do wish it had an OLED screen, but the LCD is surprisingly good. It's an ABSOLUTE BARGAIN at the current price.

Day three of using this device and I cannot say any bad things about the device thus far. It's snappy, just the right size for a medium-sized hand, and the fingerprint reader is conveniently placed on the back.

Camera: I seen the bad reviews, I seen the good reviews. I have to say, mine is on the positive side. The camera is not as bad as everyone said, however, if you are trying to be a photographer with a cellphone, you're not gonna cut it with this device (or any device in that matter, use a real camera).

Speed/Performance: Fast. That's the only thing I can describe it as. I have used a number of smartphones and this one is quick and snappy.

Battery Life: Astounding! I've had my phone off charge for the last 15 hours and I'm still at 40% with continuous random usage and launching some high-drain apps.

Screen with Front Notch: At first I thought it would be sort of obtrusive, but it compliments it well. Apps that don't support the color change in that region of the screen automatically changes to black and virtually hides the camera notch (unless you tilt it at a very odd angle).

Storage: Sad there's no expandable storage, but with 128GB storage (technically 116GB minus 15.9GB for the OS), it's more than enough for a general user.

Accessories: Beautifully braided USB-C to USB-C cable and USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack are durable. The charging cable has an attached cable tie to keep it neatly packed when going places with it, and the charger itself is rated for 5V 3A and 9V 3A which charges the phone from flat to full in about two hours.

Operating System: As stock as stock could be. Other than the camera software, it's as stock Android as it could possibly be. No bloatware, no custom launcher, no screwing around. Just how an Android device should be.

Problems: Be careful where you poke! The SIM tray release hole and the microphone hole are almost next to each other, mere millimeters apart, so be careful where you push that removal tool. I almost stabbed the mic out of the phone.

Impression: 4.85 out of a 5.0. Other than the SIM release and the lack of expandable storage, the phone is fantastic.

Bought this phone about a month ago and I love it.
The best phone I've owned so far.
                                Before this, I owned:
                                Zenfone AR
                                Xperia Z5

It comes with a "power adapter with USB Power Delivery over USB Type-C" which is great. A lot of other manufacturers are providing non USB PD ones over USB A connecting ports.

Bought this a couple of months ago, absolutely love it.I've not installed Orea beta yet, but heard great things about it - going to wait on the official release (only a couple of weeks away at the most). GSMarena should definitely then do a re-review.

[Germany] I recently bought this phone and really like it. Alredy tested (accidentally) the toughness by droping it from ear level on teil floor, expecting to pick it up in pieces, but there is only a small mark on it. BTW it fell exactly on a corner.
Other than that, the high screen-body ratio is really enjoyable.

I've moved to the PH-1 from BB Keyone, which has a very good battery life, but until now I have not felt a difference between these two.

Camera is not the best, but also it is of no interest to me since I am mostly taking pictures with an ACTUAL semi-professional camera.

For the price..I can really only recommend it.
