A Google Street View update brings auto face blurring, 360 photos grouping

George, 03 September 2016

An update to Google Street View is in the works (or rather, it's been done, just not officially rolled out yet) that brings a bunch of new features to the Android app.

These are mostly geared to 360 photos handling, and the app will now be able to auto-detect faces in them to speed up blurring. Activated by a toggle in the settings, the feature has been in the making for a few months, now going live.

Additionally, the app will now automatically group 360 photos by time and location. Another official improvement is the added ability to share links to user profiles.

In the clues to future features department, the dev team is apparently working on photo opportunity suggestions. Potentially dubbed "Nearby opportunities", the feature will pop up a notification, should you happen to be in a spot where the photo database could use an expansion.

The APK containing the update is available to download at the source link below, as it hasn't yet made it officially to the Google Play Store.
