I read about some bad comments about ACER A1~810 KITKAT update on this forum. So i just share my own encounters here.
I received the first Pre~Kitkat firmware update from Acer in June. Thats to prepare the device for its actual update. Then on 17 July i finally got the notification i was waiting for ~ it's Kitkat 4.4.2 alright.
The OTA update process took at least 15 mins to complete and installed. The file size is big, about 258MB.
Take note after this update, the following:
1. Perform cache data clean up on your device (Setting > Storage)
2. Dont update your Google Map （set to non auto update）
The updated map app wont work well with this firmware update.
3. Delete your stock Acer camera app （4.2.2）
4. Most importantly, SWITCH OVER TO Android Runtime （ART）, this mode apparently works perfectly with the Kitkat firmware update! （Via Developer Options）
5. Download latest Google Now Launcher （releashed on Aug 1）from Play Store
6. If encounter any apps forced close or lag, uninstall them and reinstall
Let me tell you, after update to Kitkat 4.4.2 my Acer A1~810 really rocks, perform like a brand new high end tablet! Quadrant benchmark shows at least 80% improvement in software optimization!!! I kept trying and finally i have to believe that this Is REAL!

Man the last update makes my camera not to work, it says unfortunatelly the gallery stoped, it makes me mad at it damn!

This new update is a real dillema.
On ONE hand we need to update to be secured from Heartbleed fault
But then if we do so for such concernant we lose a write feature for 3rd party Apps to be able to write data on the SD card

The new kitkat update turns this wonderful tablet into absolute garbage. Keep on getting force close message when using google maps, fluctuating internal memory space like idiot. The update basically has no purpose except for few more options on the camera apps which i believe not many people using it anyway with its fixed focus camera.I wish if i could revert back to the stock 4.2 version.

I had gotten the tablet for Christmas, shortly after the top right corner got a crack. When I noticed it I thought crap, oh well its just a small one. Then when I went to use it, at least 3 inches of the screen did not work when I touched it, the display of everything was good. Since the screen completely rotated it was okay I guess. About 5 months after the screen cracked super easily, down the entire right side of the screen. Now the entire screen does not work. Now to get the screen replaced its going to cost at the very least $120.99, believe me I have looked into everything to find a cheaper deal. Even if you find a cheaper screen you still have to pay for someone to replace it. I think that a person is better off buying an I pad mini or something, they are cheaper to fix and the screen isn't as noticeable with pixels. Also it always gets updates and their better. If you do get the tablet download the ..... KK app and it will look almost the same as and I Pad but get an I pad.. haha My review is to warn people of the expenses of repairs for this thing. goodbye.

my tablet is not updating, it updated once today. I tried everything possible but im still on 4.2, i even did a hard reset, Im in the US, does anyone think its location-related or something, help me out here guys, i need the 4.4

If you buy a bmw and then a new model comes out you've missed on the latest offerings. There's nothing wrong with Jellybean or anything earlier, they work fine. It's true that upgrades and environmentally more friendly but upgrades will keep coming out forever. Sometimes we just don't need the latest and greatest.

Absoloutley awful. Not compatable at all. Will buy a new tablet and scrap this one "Acer iconia a1". I know some of the problems are because of Google but even still The kitkat update has made my tablet slow, jerky, causes it to freeze and done something to the graphics. Will not be purchasing Acer again. And will reconsider getting android again. Has caused a big problem with my banking as was in the middle of something when it froze. :(

Now is avabile Android 4.4.2
I downloaded right now and my tablet works very fast,the battery it's good,the camera is very nice,i cand do more things with the camera(have a lot of new things),the new update is super!!!

Kitkat in Malaysia too. MicroSD card write permission change as per pop up window message.
