AI Object Removal - which phone is best?

Comparing the results
Let's look at some photos. The first image is the sample from the control group - untouched by AI - and next to it, we've assembled crops from each scene, highlighting errors or marks of the AI being used.
Yes, there are a lot of samples! We encourage you to use our compare tool at the top of the page to put images side by side. The crops are the quickest way to give you an idea of the results.
We went over how each AI eraser functions in the previous page - note that we're only looking at the end results here.
Removing shadows and a street sign
With that out of the way, let's talk AI erasers! Each AI solution has its own characteristics, if you will. Samsung's Galaxy AI is the best at filling the missing space with believable textures, but it leaves blurry, easily noticeable patches. Two of the other three have a similar issue with blurriness.
Apple's Clean Up is the only one that matches its AI-generated textures and graphics to the rest of the image. And while its generated filler isn't as good as that of Samsung's Galaxy AI, its superior clarity makes up for it in part. Apple's photo has better contrast, sharpness, and colors in the places where AI is used.
Google's Magic Eraser does a tragic job in this example. It's unusable - the texture (if we can call it that) has ruined the building's natural edge, and to add insult to injury, there's a big blurry spot.

Removing a crane from the background
This is a typical example of a tourist shot - a cityscape obscured by some form of construction. It's also a tough challenge for AI to remove, and we can't say that either AI solution has done a good job. Samsung's Galaxy AI did the best with the affected building on the right, but only Apple and Xiaomi made the top of the spruce tree believable.

Removing people from a street
Another classic example of a photo in need of an AI eraser tool - people on a pretty street (though some photogs might argue removing them ruins the photo). Here, Galaxy AI did it best. Xiaomi and Apple are close by (and the best in terms of believability), but a keen eye would see the remnants of a manhole cover.
Google's Magic Eraser can be considered the best, if it weren't for the texture error in the back of the photo (near the e-scooter).

Removing a chair
This is a tough one - removing a chair in the foreground with a second chair and some text behind. Galaxy AI shines bright here - you wouldn't give Samsung's photo a second glance (though the AI watermark is noticeable). Xiaomi could've been just as good, but it left a dark spot where the white chair was. Apple and Google couldn't handle this scene.

Removing people from the foreground
The fountain scene was a breeze for Galaxy AI. Aside from the expected bluriness, it did a wonderful job. Apple's Clean Up is nearly as good, it just needs to sort out tiles - its tiles are uneven and weird.
Google's Magic Eraser took it upon itself to remove some of the people in the background, automatically selecting them. It couldn't do it without leaving a mess behind. There are also uneven tiles and a weird fountain railing. Xiaomi's AI Erase produced an inexplicable shape in the bottom-most tiles.

Removing a lamp post
This is another tough one - removing a lamp post in front of an old landmark. Galaxy AI is once again the best here, followed closely by Google's Magic Eraser, which fumbled the chance to win by ruining the doorway arch in the bottom of the picture.
Apple and Xiaomi produced weird shapes on the top of the building.

People on stairs
Next is one of the toughest tests we have. Neither AI solution was able to do a very good job. Xiaomi's AI Erase produced the most believable result but we'd still hesitate to post it on social media. Samsung came second in this scene.

Removing people from the foreground 2
Again, a win for Galaxy AI, Xiaomi was once again thwarted by a single AI error and would've otherwise matched Samsung. Apple and Google were once again befuddled by the patterns in the scene.

Removing a car
The next scene is light work for any modern AI - removing a car from a symmetrical scene with almost no textures. Each AI did a good job - we like Apple's result the best, only just, because it's imperceptible to the eye.

Removing distractions
This is a classic shot - Lisbon's popular trams with the waterfront seen in the distance. Getting rid of the people in the street should be easy enough.
Galaxy AI was the only one able to remove the distractions believably. Xiaomi, again, was close behind. We get the feeling that Xiaomi's AI solution needs a slight adjustment, and it will be able to surpass Samsung.
Apple and Google's results are bad.

Photobomber 1
We can repeat our last analysis here as well - Galaxy AI was the best, followed very closely by Xiaomi's AI Erase. Apple and Google failed in this scene.

Photobomber 2
Galaxy AI's winning streak ends here. It failed, multiple times, at removing a photobomber in the foreground. Apple's Clean Up produced an unfixable mess, Xiaomi created a weird giant box thing, Google's Magic Eraser may be the only half-decent result here, but it's blurry and shabby.

A good testing for when these erasers get compared again in the future (if possible) is compare how they are when it comes to live concerts. Say taking picture of bands and removing people video recording the show from the pictures.
