I bought a 511 2 days ago, SIM-Free for 250 Euro. I've had 3310, V3690, StarTac, Ericsson...all before! and I have to say well done to Alcatel. Its not the most striking phone out there, but its certainly very small, light, great menu navigation (once you are used to it). All it lacks is GPRS and PC sync ability....I strongly recomend, if you want a new phone, that knocks the pants off a Nokia, is a little different then go for this one. oh and for those of you wondering where you can buy it from - www.alcatel.com

      That is the worst mobile phone on the market. This is a shame for Alcatel, by whom the development goes backward!!

              The battery life is exceptional. However, once the battery it taken out, the time and date will be frozen and you need to reset the time. Unable to compose polyphonic ringtones although you can choose the instrument. Voice memo can be converted to ringtone. The scroll-buttons are quite hard to use. I end up have sore thumbs after excessive surfing on the WAP.

                You can add some properties of this machine:

                Voice Dialling (50 numbers);
                Radio;
                Calculater;
                Currency;
                Predictive test entry;
                Numbers in phone (up to 250 names): 3 contact categories )

                                        Would like a rubber feel around the back where the battery is and also the edges would feel better round for small hands and not squared. Also, would appreciate the front cover and keypad to be moulded into each other to allow the handset to be more or less splash proof. There is a tremendous wastage of liquid damaged handsets which is money burned for nothing.

                                        Also, the Ericsson and Motorola products come with integral fm reciever so that one can listen to the radio when passing time. Why not Alcatel. I e-mailed a suggestion months before either of those two companies produced the idea to Alcatel with no reply. A product with internal handsfree facility and fm reciever, why not?
