Roman: I have to correct your story a bit, the phone does support 1 GB cards... but only the most recent firmware versions. The older ones will not work.

This webpage is fully trustable Maniatko... this company is the Official Alcatel partner for Germany, they also service phones. Yes the music control is the remote. Sorry to hear that Jerico.
But I am obliged to say at this point that my phone, a year old now, has no issues... the cards work... nothing deletes and the charger is still the original one! So its fine...

I'm sorry but I give up. I do not recommend this phone. It has too many issues and problems. I bought my S853 just 2 months ago. Next time, I won't buy Alcatel anymore
Problems are:
1. Firmware Upgrade (It's a hassle to bring it on the shop
2. Cannot read 1GB memory card (Even if the firmware is 188)
3. Charger easily malfunctioned (My charger didn't fell on the ground)
4. The latest problem happened to me is: it deletes my directory and it happened 3 times a day after I synchronize from the computer.
I lose my trust on Alcatel. Sorry

Hi,
About the firmware, too bad I cannot have it upgraded in KL...
The gentleman who works with Alcatel adviced me that they will gladly upgrade the firmware for me (and it would take only 1-2 hour) if they have the firmware...
However, since S853 is not marketed in KL anymore, so they do not have the firmware...
Looks like I need to go back to Thailand and escalate to the customer engineer manager...
(since the engineer that I talked with firmly denied that they cannot get international firmware, he is also the one who said that I can have the firmware upgrade in KL if they have it...)

Sounds like it is asking for the network simlock key. Have you changed providers (sim cards) recently? If you did thats your problem... either unlock the phone or het a sim card from you old service provider.

I got this phone since February last year. For 1 years more, I use this phone whit out any problem. I very enjoy using & play with it. But I get problem on last week, when I turn on th phone ask requirement of Network Key?(6 digit). This is happen after I charged the battery fully. As long I used this phone I never put any code to this phone? So until now, I can't use this phone again. Why could this happen? How to solved this problem? Can anybody help me?Please...(sorry if my English is poor :))

Simple... you cant... not in the phone anyway... what you could do is buy a headphone that has an integrated volume control in its cord.

Hi,
I'm sorry if someone has asked about this...
This phone is great when I play MP3 via its speaker.
However, when I play it via the given earphone, I cannot get the volume at the proper amount.
The middle level is a bit too quiet, but if I add a level, it is too loud. The proper amount of me seems to be the middle of the two levels...
1. How can we adjust the volume to increase only half level?
2. If #1 cannot be done, how can we change the pre-defined amount of volume of each level?
(Eg. the middle level maybe 60 and the next one 80, so if I can change it to 70 and 90, it will be perfect!)

I have previously contacted the service center but they refer me back to my local service center, which does not have Chinese support firmware available.
Ironically, I live in a country where the use of both Chinese and English is very common. But it is terrible to be unable to read non-English SMS due to no support on the firmware.

Honestly... the only issues I had where the crashes and resets (non functional handsfree), but since my upgrade the phone is fine... everything works here... even the charger still works fine after one year.

My charger malfunctioned so I had it repaired to Wellcom. It will take 3 weeks!!
I thought my phone will be turned-off for 3 weeks. But when I tried maniatiko's steps to charge via usb, it worked!
Just use the USB port at the back of the CPU (not the front one) and insert the bigger plug as slight as possible until the phone beeps.

This phone has too many problems:
1. You have to upgrade firmware if you bought the 177 version
2. Can't read 1GB memory cards
3. Charger malfunctioned in 2 months use (So I brought my charger to the store again)
4. (Or it's just I'm the unluckiest person in the world who bought a phone with some defects)
Whatever the problems are, I like it very much. My friends are always amazed by my phone
