Bought two of these and have had them for a couple of days now. I don't read that they have GPS, but some apps are able to track your location as a part of their proprietary agreements. That would seem to indicate there is GPS of some sort used in the Fire7.
No "Gorilla Glass" but it is a tough material never the less, as proven by one frustrated user who, in a fit of stupidity, gave the center of the Fire a closed fist knuckle punch. The result? No harm no foul.
The Fire comes with a LOT of bundled 'stuff'. Most of that stuff is geared to the sale of Amazon goods and services. I knew that going in so it's no biggie for me. I realize that's how Amazone sells these for $50 new, rather than a whole lot more. There is nothing that forces me to use any of those offerings. I put them in a file and move that file to the end of the icon line. No big deal.
Bottom line: I have to say I'm very happy with my Fires. They do what I want them to do and do it with very nice conformation.

We got one of these for my son for Christmas, and this thing is pretty amazing. I easily added the Google Play Store to it (rootjunkysdl.com) and was able to add all my favorite google apps. I was able to connect a thumbdrive, mouse and wireless keyboard through OTG USB. The benefit of the SD card slot is great as well. Running google hangouts with it and making a phone call worked flawlessly with my bluetooth headphones.
All this for $49?!?! AMAZING!

This is not entirely true. It's still an Android which uses .apk files. Even Amazon delivers the products via apk (which is really just a zip file renamed). You can't, by factory load, use Google Play, but you can enable developer mode which will allow you to "side load" .apk's. Alternatively you can still load apk's from unknown sources just like on normal launchers. Amazon's fire is just a Launcher with their own customized browser and other applications which gives you a different experience. Technically you could make your normal Android devices work the same, as well as even work like an Apple device (though not necessarily run their apps) with the right launcher and customization's.

Battery last long est. 8hrs.
So many amazon apk's only 58 MBytes remain of 1Gbyte Ram.
I can stop cached apk's and regain 200 Mbytes of ram memory but amazon unnessary apks keep launching bringing total ram back down to 58MB.
kindle 7 (5th gen) tablet is very fast till memory gets used up with crap apks.

I believe it does have a GPS, but it doesn't have a compass. Does anyone know if it has a magnetic sensor so it will turn on and off when a compatible cover is opened and closed?
