What about the Fire HDX 8.9 from 2014? It has a 2560x1600 screen with 339 ppi. Much higher than any modern tablet, from any brand for that matter, that's if you exclude the Lenovo Legion Y700, that has 343ppi and same resolution

Still the best cheap tablet out there. Also, the Kindle Fire HD6 has the highest resolution screen of any Amazon tablet ever released (as of Sept 2021)!
