For people asking whether they can use their normal Google Playstore and not Amazon unique, I do not know yet. I want to know as well. I will post in about a week about it. In the meantime try to setup with your normal Google Playstore. But you will always have to have a local Amazon account so you can get base OS updates.

I have been wanting to try one of these, For the 3D effect offered by the additional 4 corner front facing cameras. Not at $199 reasonably priced no contract. I will be connecting it with Tmobile. I think these will be a good deal for most people non business use looking for a personal only Android phone. Good for calls, text, email, games, facebook etc. I do not know if this phone will accept my normal Google Android store ID. Even if different just use free apps. This phone is not a replacement for a high end Android (Nexus, Motorola, Samsung, etc.) or newer iPhone. But it may just do everything you are looking for in a phone. Me, 30 years IT experience speaking.

I just bought Fire phone from Amazon.. Shipping on Tuesday. I needed a good phone this to used this year holiday. I think it is a steal; considering Prime membership expiring in a couple months.

I do like Amazon ecosystem, and I do think this phone is perfect for me. I currently using Galaxy Light, and it's pretty easy to learn within a few day. I'm not the type of person that will pay $700 on high end phone.

$100 for Fire phone truely an early Christmas Gift for myself. I was shopping for an Nexus 5 but Google playstore soldout. On Amazon, $500 to $550 dollar and that device is a year old. Soon as I foundout about Fire phone, I jumped right on it.

I see a lot of people showing interest in this phone now that they're temporarily slashed the price by over 50% from it's already reduced price but I'm here to tell you not to be fooled. If you want a phone like this buy a galaxy S4 instead, you can get them used but in good condition for about the same price. The reason you should get an S4 instead is in return for a slower, but still completely usable, processor you'll get a higher res screen, an SD card slot, a removable battery that lasts longer, and you'll be getting an actual Android phone rather then Amazon's proprietary fork of the OS.

Just bought one from Amazon $199, free shipping, free 1 year of Amazon Prime (worth $99). Essentially, you are getting the phone for $100! Considering it was $549 originally, that's a pretty good savings.

Amazon should be selling this phone unlocked for 149.99 to 179.99 so they can move them off the shelves.

This has 2013 specs with a price of highend 2014 smartphone, you would take a valuable lesson from this phone!

No doubt the quality of the hardware is good (based on personal experience with a Fire Tablet) but I wouldn't buy because:

                                  - No SD Card so you're stuck with whatever memory you bought it with (and no I don't consider cloud storage secure)

                                  - fixed battery. Batteries do not last forever and can overheat/lose capacity.

                                  - Only on O2 (in the UK). They are a poor network whose Spanish parent company is crippled by debt. O2 Eire and O2 home broadband have already been sold off because of this.
Their tariffs are laughable for data and if you want 4G EE cannot be beaten for coverage. I would have to unlock it (or buy SIM free).

                                  - Ridiculous 'Amazon' version of Android preventing full range of Android apps from being available. Thanks but no thanks.

Everything except for infrared rx/tx can't understand that one. Amazon is asleep at the switch. In this case literally. No wonder their stock is crashing.
