Android 2.2 Froyo update has started rolling out for Nexus One

If Google surprised you with the playable Pac-Man logo, you’d better sit down - the Android 2.2 Froyo updates for the Nexus One have begun rolling out. Better yet, the update is available for manual download if you can’t wait for the OTA update to reach you.

It started off as a whisper on the Internet, but Google has confirmed that they’re releasing the Android 2.2 Froyo update. So far the update is only for Google’s own, the Nexus One, and as usual it will become available to users in stages.

Initial reports say that Froyo delivers on its promise - all the new features and most importantly, the speed. Other phones will have to wait until their respective manufacturers release updated ROMs - which might take a while with all the custom UIs they’ve slapped on top of Android.

Well, this is the perk of owning an Android smartphone straight from the big G - you‘re the first to get updates. HTC promised to serve some Froyo treats to their Year 2010 phones too.
