App drawer and app shortcuts coming to Xiaomi's MIUI

Ro, 17 June 2019

Xiaomi's MIUI is one of the few UIs still lacking an app drawer as an option but a newly released alpha version of the software reveals this is about to change. Probably because of the well-received POCO Launcher that's essentially a MIUI distribution with an app drawer and app shortcuts for the Pocophone F1.

The latest alpha version of MIUI's build number is 4.10.6.1025-06141703 and it introduces a button for the app drawer on the home screen. Tapping it opens the drawer and tapping on the arrow at the top of the screen or pressing the back button closes it. Swiping up and down doesn't seem to work for accessing the drawer, but we suspect this will be ironed out with a future iteration or when it hits beta testing.

Moreover, the quick actions app shortcuts, which were introduced back in Android 7.0 Nougat, are finally making its way into MIUI.
