It only leverage sim card for data and gps.
And the fact that you cannot receive SMS from iPad.. whatsapp disabled their App on iPad.. so that users cannot get confused.
But now do not worry. Just buy iPhone and iPad together, and when they are together you can text from iPad.. and it will send via iPhone. And iMessage keep all messages sync between your iPad and iPhone.
If you have no iPhone.. do not think about iPad. IPad is incomplete without iPhone.. i feel.

Also in gpu too, more than twice the frame, it ditch the air gap between the digitizer and lcd making it even more thinner, 2g of ram so no more refreshing safari tabs, 8mp camera with 2.4 aperture bigger than iphone 4s,5,5s,6,6plus' 3.0, touch id. What is a major upgrade to you. Even the snapdragon 810 is slower than this ipad air 2 which is from 2014, this is future proof too.
Nothing on the market can beat what ipad air2 can offer. This is the top notch tablet unlike when ipad air came out it had lots of competition. Nothing can beat ipad air 2.

Apple ipad air 2 is better in terms of all the things but it miss the GPU and immage stabilisation features.otherwise it is a good tablet on this price bracket.
