This phone is just awsome people! Didn't you notice? It is not a touch screen, it is a mulyi-touch screen, that means you can touch the screen with several fingers at the same time!! With 8 GB memory it is only 600 dollars..
Wake up people apple has re-invented mobile phones!

This is soooo sweet! but its old technology. does anybody kno if there will be another 1 of these out for crimbo with 3-5mp camera with video callin and black or white colour? tht wuld b sweeter. 16M colours... amazin!!

Not sure where you got the info that it's running 10.4.8 - its actually running a mobile version 10.5 Leopard.

The report provides a breakdown of the manufacturing costs. The analysis seems fairly thorough to me as a practising engineer. And while I will allow for the fact that Apple will have some R&D costs (though there is no new technology in this phone) and some marketing expenditure, I doubt it would amount to anything more than tens of dollars per unit.
Personally, I think the iPhone is great, not for the technology in it (nothing is new) but for its integration and ease of use which I think raises the bar for the entire industry.
However, I do think that given the profitability of the product (which is in the same league as the iPod at around 50%), that Apple should have gone a step further and designed a product that was a little more future proof. It would have cost them very little to upgrade the phone to 3G, include a 3MP camera and possibly integrate a GPS receiver on the phone.
While the specs as is are definitely fine for North America, this phone might not sell too well in the rest of the world. And if Apple chooses to upgrade the phone for the Asian and European markets, it will be clear that it made a very deliberate decision to sell the inferior product to its home market.
Needless to say I will be waiting for version 2.0. 5 years ahead? I doubt it.

they didn't have to dissect the iphone to know that they just have to ask their sellers. that means the comparison its so away from the truth probably by margin of 70$-100$ max. STILL apple its a rip.

this fone is gonna cost alot(cuz apple is a rip), and seeing that its apple that made it its not gonna last long espescially because its the 1st fone apple is making. this fones is not going to be worth its price whatever the price may be.
