Honestly, I love this gadget. For those who don't like it, try out the iPhone 11Pro and feel it, iPhone 12 is definitely an upgrade. Thank me later.

apple ran out of designs ideas so they moved their attention to the edges

BMSmith, 20 Oct 2020"I'm not saying that the OS is superior, it'... moreIt's not because It's so "common" It's because the OS is made directly by Apple which means they can optimize it to fit the notch or fit the display or use their bionic chip perfectly. That's how they get great battery life tests even while having smaller size batteries than the competition. You can even see the optimization by looking at the ram and how It still runs smooth with that much ram.

JDK, 20 Oct 2020I'm not saying that the OS is superior, it's just... more"I'm not saying that the OS is superior, it's just that iPhone apps better take advantage of the features ON the iPhone."

How so? Android has some extremely versatile camera modes and options, works well with Alexa and Google Home, has fantastic integration through all of the Google Services, 15GB of free storage on Google Photos -VS- 5GB of free iCloud storage, there's more apps on android that iOS due to its larger share in the market (87% - 13%, 2019). Which apps take better advantage of the features on iPhone, in your opinion?

As for longevity, I've as many old Samsung users coming in with 5-6 year old handsets as I have Apple smartphones. Apple does have a well optimized OS, I'd never argue with that, but they've also been caught slowing down their handsets to try and maintain said longevity and they're only prepared to provide a single year of manufacturing warranty. I have so many arguments every week because people sign into 24 month commitments and their iPhone goes faulty after 12-16 months and they haven't a leg to stand on.

I'll never say they're bad phones, because I've seen some objectively and undeniably bad phones (Nokia 1.3 still gives me nightmares) but are they better than android phones, objectively, if I gave you two flagships - one android, one iPhone - no. They're lacking customization (icons, launchers, theme packs, fonts, APK's like GCAM mod), lacking leading and bleeding edge hardware, lacking all the latest and greatest that Apple should be delivering as the Big Dog of tech.

I'm from the UK man! That's the thing in this country and the West in general; we're wealthier. We buy for brands, for the status (Apple has actually sent me training presentations telling me to try and talk less about specs and hardware and more about the prestige and feeling of being seen with an iPhone, if you can believe it!) because we have the luxury to do so. The amount of children I'm seeing being brought in - we're talking 8/9/10/11 years old - who would rather have a iPhone 6S in 2020 than a midrange Samsung, Oppo or Huawei that absolutely DESTROYS the 6S in every single metric - because they have to be seen to have an iPhone at school or they face ridicule. Honestly, it would break your heart.

I've tried to understand the siren song of IOS. I've concluded they're well optimized phones and due to them being so common, there's lot of support around. They're great smartphones for the older generation, who just want simple, even at the expense of all else. For everyone else, I just can't see it as being the smart choice.

BMSmith, 20 Oct 2020When we're speaking about objectively better smartphon... moreI'm not saying that the OS is superior, it's just that iPhone apps better take advantage of the features ON the iPhone.

It also supports 5 years of software updates, which is more important then just the new features, it keeps your phone up to date in security.

Apple's features aren't 5 years late on average, dark mode was fairly recent, ARKit is fairly recent, etc. There are a few outliers such as widgets, but I think that apple's implementation is more streamlined(purely my opinion).

"most people use android in your work area".

Not to be rude, but do you work in a 3rd world country? In the U.S most people at work use iPhones.

JDK, 20 Oct 2020On the other hand, I think your "usually better" ... moreWhen we're speaking about objectively better smartphones, the core components of that smartphone are a major aspect. Of course, the OS is also a crucial component, but regardless of emotional or anecdotal experience, flagship OS is overall fantastic across the board. Whether you go for a iPhone, Samsung, OnePlus, Pixel and you're paying iPhone money and up (SE 2020, £399 or iPhone 11, £729) you're not going to experience a laggy, bug-ridden experience.

I have to add the 'usually' as a disclaimer, because understandably not every android smartphone has a better camera or battery life, but when we're being fair and controlling for price point - android has it, hands down.

inb4 your (quite likely) emotional rebuttal using Apple-approved catchphrases like 'the ecosystem' and 'it just works!' - I work in a smartphone retailer. I'm selling, handling, troubleshooting and repairing smartphones 40+ hours a week and have done so for the past seven years. The sheer amount of individuals with iPhone's who pour in daily regarding irreparable software bugs, faulty updates bricking the phones, customers requesting to do extremely basic tasks (backing up with iCloud, updating software, iMessage issues) that just flat out DON'T work, is staggering.

Pop into most smartphone retailers and ask the employees what phones they're using - you'll find it's disproportionately android, because we deal with them every day and we see that pound for pound, emotion removed, they're inferior handsets. You might disagree with that - and you're welcome to - but that's my experience after handling thousands of smartphones over nearly a decade.

BMSmith, 14 Oct 2020What a redundant comment. If that's all you could come... moreOn the other hand, I think your "usually better" part was redundant. You tried to explain android superiority only through specs then fit in the vague "usually better" to fill in your "superiority" list.

MTZ, 19 Oct 2020iPhone 12 Pro Max has 3687mAh Li-On battery I wish Apple didn't decrease the thickness and kept the same 3969mAh from the 11 Pro Max. I understand that the A14 has much better power consumption and the battery life will be the same, but still.

lee, 19 Oct 2020is this worth upgrading from my 11 pro max people? Worth is a relative thing. If your salary is high, then yeah it's worth it. If you're stretching yourself to do it, no it's not worth it. You're well aware of the difference between 11 Pro and 12 Pro, so it's up to your financial situation to decide.
