Apple iPhone 16 Plus in for review

The iPhone 16 Plus is Apple's new cheaper large iPhone and this year it's standing a bit closer to the Pro Max in some ways, but further away in others. It shares the same box content, though - you only get a braided USB-C cable.

So what do you get in your new iPhone 16 Plus over the 15 Plus? It has a new design with the two cameras on the back sitting aligned instead of opposite each other. This allows the iPhone 16 to shoot spatial content for the Vision Pro and it looks better too.

The 16 Plus also gets a bigger battery, which Apple says is good for one hour of video more than its predecessor. Another addition is the new autofocusing 12 MP ultrawide camera with macro mode.

The iPhone 16 Plus also gets the new 3nm A18 chip. It has the same 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine as the A16 Bionic, but it's more efficient at 3nm vs 4nm. You also get 2 extra GB of RAM at 8GB.

Probably the biggest addition is the new camera control button, which surprisingly made its way to the non-Pro phones.

It's a physical button that recognizes both touch gestures and pressure. You can open the camera from locked or any screen and dive deep into photographic settings all without touching the screen.

So a new camera control button to go along with the customizable action button, a new autofocusing ultrawide, an A18 chip, and a bigger battery. It all sounds like a solid upgrade over the iPhone 15 Plus.

However, you get the same 6.7-inch 60Hz panel for yet another year. It feels like a ripoff for a phone that's over €1,000 and something that's really hard to accept in 2024.
