Linja Zax & Swipe, 25 Mar 2009Frequently the best multi-touch gestures are done with a si... moreHow can you say "Frequently the best multi-touch gestures are done with a single finger"? Do you know what MULTI means? Let me give you a scenario. A face photo for example. W/ the iphone's multi touch, if you want to zoom the area where the eyes are on the photo, all you need to do is directly pinch out on that area and you're done in one step. How are you going to do that with a single finger in one step? You can't. So how can you say that a single finger zoom can be more intuitive? You say that with multi touch it requires repetitive pinching. No it does not. The most is two pinches, and that is on rare occassions. The iphone only has a 3.5 inch display, not a 50" plasma TV display. That circular motion to zoom has already been implemented on the HTC Diamond which I used to have, and it is not as precise as multi touch is, and you have no total control of the zoom size. Whereas with multi touch, zooming stops when and where you pinched, so you have total control of the zooming size and the specific area that you zoom.

I cannot comment on the swiping as an option for typing text on a touchscreen. I think that would slow me down. I am quite happy and comfortable with tapping on the letters. Less smudges that way. This one is a matter of choice as to which method you're more comfortable with.

The real point is, multi touch refers to multiple fingers. Multi...multiple...you know. Using one finger is no longer multi touch =) So I insist that multi touch means, using more than 1 finger. You asked "Why use two or three fingers (or sometimes a whole hand) to do what can be done with one finger?" Ummm, maybe because two or more is better than one =) Typing on a keyboard can be done with one finger as well, but I'd rather use all my ten fingers to type on a keyboard FASTER. So does that mean that since you can type on a keyboard with only one finger that you refuse to use your other fingers?

You know what? If you prefer single finger operation on everything you do, that is fine. But please do not call single finger operation as multi touch. The appropriate term would be UNI touch for 1 finger, not MULTI.

This i phone got top gaming device on this weeks gadget show and this link below goes to bbc small topic on why the i-phone is the future gaming device..

                                    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7960513.stm

If a future i-phone comes out with autofocus cam and half decent video record could this then be the ultimate fone ever????

I do not have i-phone cause use cam/video in my day to day things but its continuously in the press and on the tele and if its that good and they add the last features i said ther is no complaint..I can carry seperate cam but i like all in one things,,i had xperia but its to cumbersome to use outdoors and the only option is to use spb shell,,SO,, in that case there is no need for the 9 panels if they are tricky to use whilst in real world..

Multi touch lets you zoom in and out on a specific area more effectively. You also have more control of the zoom size with multi touch.

I've already dropped my iphone a couple of times and no damage or scratches at all on its screen.

Capacitive gives a more precise response than resistive. Capacitive uses only one layer, while resistive uses 3 layers, that is why you need pressure on resistive and it's not that responsive when you drag objects coz once you lose the pressure just for one bit, it drops whatever your dragging, so you have to drag the item again. And I am sorry, If I want to draw, I'd use a paper and a pen =) Using stylus and fingernails can easily scratch the screen of resistive touchscreens. Dragging, tapping, flicking, swiping on a resistive touchscreen using a stylus looks painful, and when you use your finger, it does not respond consistently. Resistive is old touch technology, while capacitive is new. Also, if you live in a cold climate zone, there is a special stylus you can use for capacitive touchscreens as well. Multi touch is useful, period. Whether your viewing photos or web browsing. It's faster and more intuitive than other zoom applications
