Just by chance I figured out the problem worsened with the WLAN/WIFI switched on, but disappeared completely when the SIM card was removed. I got a tip from an iphone forum to do a "hard reset" and a network reset. It worked like a dream, and the 3G's been running flawlessly, now averages 30 hours of battery life between charges even with heavy use.

In hv this iphone 3. the problem i face isthe battery gets drained too soon. the phone is heating up too even without using any apps. Can anyone help

or if its not...than ...how to use it...by installing other supportive software !!...

I haven't had any problems with my iPhone 3g. I think it's GREAT! I check my e-mail first thing in am and no problems. Play word games, no problems. Use my Alarm daily. Takes awesome pics. Now, I've got the first problem with it! : ) When I connect it to my PC, the pop up window is not there, so I can't transfer my pics to my PC like I was able to do before. Any suggestions? Still a NICE iPhone 3g!

Hi Friends
Recently, I have updated Apple iPhone3G from 3.0 to 4.2.1 firmware upgrade and baseband updated to 06.15.00
First Jailbroken the Tethered OS and Unlocked.
The following link wil explains the detailed steps.

I have followed the steps as per the above link instructs.
After the above steps, we need to unlock the device(to work for any SIM). this can be done using Wi-Fi which is shown in the link

But remember, u need to run that tool on WinXP only, and need to restart the phone twice. First restart to install the ultrasn0w and second restart to update the phone.

I did it and Iam enjoying the new OS Features...

Most horrid phone I have ever owned. No-good standby time/talktime if you use all phones features; doesn't like humidity; simple task such as a custom ringtone/sms tone requires lots of fiddling. Full of quips and quirks, never going to get another apple
