I used to had this phone back at 2012,
it was great back then, work flawless with iOS 5.1.1.
So i decided to bought a used one couple month ago as my texting and call phone.
but it end up as my main smartphone after my Lumia got dunked.
Until now 3Gs still doing his job for social messaging application even tough I can't expect more for performance. LINE user will having hard time even just sending the message. fortunately Whatsapp still usable.
for now i have some choice of iOS since this previous user already jailbreake this device, and luckily I got 5.1.1 blobs from cydia.
so for now, i got 3 choice of iOS;
iOS 4.1 (Old one and Apple still Sign it till now, dont know why)
+ at this version 3Gs work fast as the commercial said back then at 2009
- only few of Apps still supporting this iOS version. mostly already change the domain link or not even make their apps yet, need to manipulate ios version to install whatsapp
iOS 5.1.1 (From cydia backup)
+The apps for this iOS version still plently. path, line, and others still working till now.
-This iOS version still usable but not at fast as it was at 4.1 or lower.
and 6.1.6 (latest one)
+most apps work on this iOS version (not as much as ios 7 above tough)
-3gs barely catch his breath with this version. xD

Ari, 10 Aug 2015I am still using it and it does the job pretty fine Because it is so outdated, it feels like a basic phone huh. I still have this phone and it works fine.. just compared to the newer phones lol.. its just basic

I once had a phone like this, it's kinda laggy when using some apps. the the battery runs out rapidly when using 3G connection internet.

I bought the 3GS for fun and giggles.. lol.. ahh.. the iPod 4th Gen runs way smoother. Smoother being said loosely. The camera is pretty weak. The phone with iOS 6 is very slow and laggy. The double tap on the home button for multi-task is pretty stubborn. The material feels a bit cheap compared to the iPod 4 and iPhone 4S. Personally find that the LG Arena, LG Viewty + Viewty Smart, and LG Renoir run way smoother and offer more despite the abundance in apps on App Store. The 3GS is too outdated for todays standards

hawii, 12 Jul 2015i have apple 3gs with ios 6.1.6 . i have some questions . t... morethe iPhone 3gs can't be updated past iOS 6 because of hardware limitations, if you want to get new apps you need to get a newer iPhone (the iPhone 4s is the oldest iPhone that will be getting iOS 9)

I have downloaded several books to my iphone. Today the screen in the books is only black. I have re-booted several times. Also I can't access any of the icons across the bottom of the screen.

Only the iPhone 4S and up are able to upgrade to iOS 7,8 and 9 coming soon. I believe the reason is that the hardware on the iPhone 4, and 3GS is not exactly compatible with the new software.
