Some people need the Apple logo because they think people will look at them and say "wow", they have an iphone.
Some people still believe it represents a premium device worthy of the premium price (no longer true in my opinion, but OK).
If someone is looking for the best value, that person should not buy an iphone. If you want the latest available options available in the market, a person should not buy an iphone.

I have had this handset for about two weeks now, and I have loved every moment of it.
I have a 6s as my work phone, and I used to have a 5s for personal use. I traded the 5s in for the SE and got £150 off the list price (SE handset cost me £280 rather than £430, happy days).
Overall, I prefer the SE to my 6s, and it is much better then my old 5s. I like the smaller form factor where I can reach all parts of the screen single handed, the battery lasts better (two days use on the 5s and 6s, three on the SE with my moderate/gentle usage) and it is significantly faster then my 5s ever was. Even when I have really pushed the battery I can get two days use, something I never got from my previous handsets.
The main camera is amazing and I also appreciate how all my old cases from the 5s fit.
There are a few drawbacks though. The front camera is not as good as the 6s, there is no 3D touch and the finger print scanner can be a bit slow. However, for me none of these are big issues - I have a PIN to unlock anyway, I rarely make use of 3D Touch on my 6s and never take selfies. So, for me, no major sweat. Side by side, I do notice the differences in screen contrasts between the SE and 6s - the latter has deeper blacks and overall colour look more vibrant and saturated. This is side my side though, when using the SE alone the screen is more than adequate, even in bright sun.
So, overall, the SE s a great phone. You don't get full flagship perks of the 6s or 6s+, but you don't pay for them either. Instead you get a phone with most of the important flagship specs, but for mid-range prices.
I realise that others might have different opinions, these are just my thoughts after using it for a while. Hope it helps,

Bought this device a week ago, battery lasted six days with first charging. Real usage was four hours indeed during this time but there is nothing to do with such small phone, only calling and texting. So do not complain regarding battery, it lasts like old time Nokia.

I think this will be my next phone. I have an iPhone 5, and while my hands aren't very small, I prefer a smaller sized phone.

In South Africa this iPhone starts at $583 for the 16gb and $728 for the 64gb that's just crazy for a midrange phone. I think in here this is going to be a fail
