Apple rumored to be working on a touchscreen MacBook

"Touch surfaces don’t want to be vertical. It doesn’t work. It’s ergonomically terrible." These are the famous words of Steve Jobs from the MacBook Pro launch event in October 2010. A lot has changed since then but Apple has yet to launch a touchscreen laptop. Well, a new report from Bloomberg News suggests Cupertino is actually considering the idea with sources close to Apple saying the company is currently testing touchscreen MacBooks that could arrive in 2025.

The touchscreen MacBook project is currently in its early stages of development and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expects the rumored OLED MacBook to be one of the first Macs to launch with touch screen capabilities. The laptop will house the same basic MacBook design but with added touchscreen capabilities.

Apple has carried out internal experiments with touchscreen laptop prototypes in the past. According to an interview with Craig Federighi from 2016 those prototypes were deemed a “compromise” as the touchscreen did not make sense in a laptop form factor which already had precise multi-touch trackpad and keyboard inputs.
