Apple always releases its products th... moreapple always releases things late? lol perhaps you should research a bit more on where modern phones and tablets even took form... hint it was all apple and everyone copying their designs. Until now apple didn't think it was a good idea to put a touchscreen in a laptop, but they've changed their minds.

Nabil Januar, 12 Jan 2023Well, Windows has touchscreen laptop for year. 🤣yes and macOS has been capable of using touchscreens since like 2009. Obviously Apple has had the capability to make a touchscreen MacBook for a very long time... but as the article says Steve Jobs was against the use case back in the day

David, 12 Jan 2023Touchscreen Laptops that don’t fold over never really took ... moreExactly. When you have a folding hinge, you can use the laptop as a drawing tablet.

David, 12 Jan 2023Touchscreen Laptops that don’t fold over never really took ... morePC laptops have touch and non touch versions. It's based on buyers' choice. Not the cultural leader's decision that they need or need not them.

Well, Windows has touchscreen laptop for year. 🤣

The first thing they should do, is have an iMac that has a touchscreen.
Imagine bringing that big, glossy screen from it's stand... pulling it down towards the desk so it sits like a large tablet. Then you manipulating the display from that comfortable angle. I believe Microsoft brought this concept to life with one of their prototypes.

For MacBooks... it doesn't make much sense. They could potentially add a 360' swivel hinge. And maybe start selling External Monitors, with a built-in touchscreen, that supports macOS devices.

The big challenge is about how to transform an Operating System that is cramped densely with information, into something that's more friendly to fat fingers. I don't think its possible. They've already transformed OS X into macOS, by the time they transform macOS further to have touchscreen they'll basically have iPadOS on their hands, and if they keep going it will be iOS, tvOS, and watchOS level.

Overall, I don't like the idea.

I didn't realise they weren't touchscreen. How do people cope? Glad I don't live in the world according to Jobs, it would not be a great place. The world according to Elon is bad enough.

Touchscreen Laptops that don’t fold over never really took off. I don’t see the point of having one honestly, especially as desktop OS’s aren’t optimised for touch. Knowing Apple it would also add a huge amount to the price. The Touch Bar was a better idea imo.

Jusat put touch screen in current Macbooks or put MacOs in to ipad. It's very easy for a big company.

YUKI93, 12 Jan 2023If Apple wants to do this, they should also put macOS on M1... moreMacBook would probably lost its meaning then which means no sales so i don't think they would ever do that even tho it sounds very logical.

this company makes from their mouth - asses :)
Quote Steve Jobs: "Touch surfaces don't want to be vertical."
