Apple targets 25% Indian production share, government official reveals

Apple is targeting to shift 25% of its production to India, revealed the trade minister of the Asian country. During a trade conference, Piyush Goyal said about 5-7% of Apple products are currently being made in India, and the goal is for this number to increase five times.

The official did not provide any timeline, and Apple did not comment on the statement.

This isn’t the first time we hear of such a shift. Previously analysts predicted that 25% of iPhone production will move to India by 2025, and Foxconn is reportedly increasing its workforce in the factory just outside the city of Chennai.

The major reason Apple is moving away from China and Foxconn diversifying its production across multiple factories are the uncertainties around COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions and the geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington.
