Apple to launch 2nm chips in 2025 but only for iPhone 17 Pro series
Apple is expected to introduce 2 nm chips next year, right in time for the iPhone 17 lineup. Latest reports revealed that they might be built by TSMC, but the Taiwanese chipmaker is having issues with production.
Cupertino reserved all of TSMC's 2nm capacity, but due to the low yields of the new process technology, the SoC will be launched only in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
According to reports from Taiwan, the chip company demoed the new product, but still needs the help of other suppliers to package the chip ready for installation in smartphones.
Partners need to supply materials, equipment, silicon intelligence (IP), and electronics design automation (EDA) which has gradually evolved into a situation of "group fight" competition, said Chou News Agency.
The 2nm line is already installed at the Baoshan plant and will begin trial production in Q3 2024, three months ahead of schedule. TSMC is expected to provide the N2 process to Apple and Nvidia, which will help the company stay ahead of Samsung and Intel in the chipmaking market.

Sooooooo..once they hit 1nm what's next? 0.5 nm These "updates" seem like marketing jargon, and less technical advancements. Annual cycles are just not realistic, yet, in capitalism, they need constant growth, lord forbid...

TBH, even updating to iOS 18 is a waste of time and space until all the bugs are ironed out, battery life is fixed and the heat is kept in check. 17.x runs smooth and cool without issues.

Does it means Upgrading Iphone now is totally waste? i mean iphone new release look same nothing more features Except those special button for camera that probably only limited user will use it, then next year they will release much thinner for less ...
