Apple to launch 2nm chips in 2025 but only for iPhone 17 Pro series

17 September 2024
TSMC might need help in packaging the chips.

Sooooooo..once they hit 1nm what's next?

0.5 nm

These "updates" seem like marketing jargon, and less technical advancements. Annual cycles are just not realistic, yet, in capitalism, they need constant growth, lord forbide they wait to release something really innovative....smh

TBH, even updating to iOS 18 is a waste of time and space until all the bugs are ironed out, battery life is fixed and the heat is kept in check.

17.x runs smooth and cool without issues.

Does it means Upgrading Iphone now is totally waste? i mean iphone new release look same nothing more features Except those special button for camera that probably only limited user will use it, then next year they will release much thinner for less heat and more battery saving chip and probably more features.

Why not 0? That way no ewaste from apple, others might follow.

I hope Apple will retain the iPhone's back design for the cameras. I saw rumors of a design that looks like Google Pixel 9 series (which I don't have a problem with) but I would prefer if each phone keeps it's unique identity. What I would like to see most in the next iPhone is a significant reduction in the size of the dynamic island, and if possible make it possible to have an option for users to hide it under the display. (maybe in a few years time)

Let's take this with a grain of salt, Ming Chi Kuo seems to think this won't happen until the 18.

Some of the comments show how little and how few people knows aram
iphone didnt had heat big issues, some apps like instagram have been the problem
Now with this n3e is even further ahead with proper aluminium inside frame for heat distribution conpared to 15 pro titanium inside fram( im talking about inside heat distribution where 15 didnt had it just titanium inside out)
Ray tracing is getting outside this world and people dont realize what this is it..they think just in gaming but no, any app that use motion/light so almost 90% will benefit

And how exactly is this DemonSpeed dude referring to heating issues on the A18 (a chip that technically isn’t even out yet) in the past tense 🤔

Next year they'd have made it more mature. The SD 8 Gen 1, 8+ Gen 1, 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3 are all 4 nm chips, see how much progress they can make just by sticking to the same node?

I'm pretty sure a mature 3nm chip from Qualcomm and Mediatek can beat Apple. Especially considering how big the jumps have been for them the past couple of generations, if they keep it up Apple won't beat them easily, if at all.

Look at Apple's performance numbers, they used to be 2-3 gens ahead at one point, now it almost feels like they're at best half a gen farther in terms of efficiency. They're losing their grip. And I'm all for it.

Both the Qualcomm and Mediatek chips are in pre-production phase, until they release we can't make correct assumptions and im not making any real thoughts on it until geekerwan makes an efficiency deep dive.

Additionally, Apple's A18 Pro hasn't even been officially released. So all 3 chips are basically "cooking". How can you be so sure? I don't believe in stuff until they're released.

Pretty sure of one thing, Apple's gonna fall behind on GPU lmao
