Apple Vision Pro now available
Apple's Vision Pro headset is finally available, having wrapped-up its pre-order campaign. It comes in three storage versions - 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. The starting price is $3,499, while the 512GB and 1TB flavors are selling for $3,699 and $3,899, respectively. That doesn't include the optical inserts for people needing prescription glasses, but more on that later.
You can now reserve a demo session at one of Apple's stores by following this link. That should let you get a better idea of the product before forking out the significant sum.
Ordering the Vision Pro headset isn't as simple as clicking on the "buy" button. It's an experience. The first step is to measure your head using your iPhone. Using the Face ID ToF scanner on your phone, you are asked to spin the phone around your head to make accurate measurements and determine the size of the Light Seal and head bands. This is essential for a snuggly and comfortable fit while wearing the headset.
The second step is to choose whether you use glasses for reading or prescription glasses during the day. The optical inserts are provided by Zeiss and come in two variants - for readers and prescription inserts. The former asks $99 in addition to the standard price while the prescription set will set you back an additional $149.
Apple said more than 600 apps are already available for the Vision Pro, including Arcade games. Third-party games supporting VR headsets will also be playable, as long as they can run on Mac using the Virtual Display feature.
