Depends on the ios version running on the iPhone. If the iPhone is running ios 9 or earlier no it can't be paired but if the iPhone is running ios 10 or higher then yes with watch OS 3

Nope..get the latest series 7 for longer support as the series 1 Apple Watch didn't support for latest updates.
