      Hi,

I'm using asus fonepad 7 P0Y1 and I'm having trouble with messaging. It took 5 attempts before it send. We don't have any signal issues with the network and I tried to forced stop the app, restart the device, plug and unplug the sim card, it will work for few text messages and eventually go back to the same issues. II'm not saying that the device won't let me send messages but it took really long before it send,

      Hoping for your response.

      Thanks.

FE170CG can easily be upgraded to 5.0 Lollipop without hassle by simply installing the firmware (.zip file) from the ASUS support site on the external SD card root.

But DON'T do it. 4GB Storage is simply NOT ENOUGH to even install/update all the included system apps, and downgrading back to KK is a BIG hassle (boot to recovery mode, and use a renamed 4.3 (JB) firmware in SD card root, then re-upgrade back to 4.4.2 KK) - see 2 posts below for detailed instructions. You need to manually clean the cache to even update ("optimize") all the pre-installed (and undeletable) apps.

With only System/Asus apps (factory default), and with 4.3 you may have > 1GB available. With 4.4.2 you may still have ~500MB. With 5.0 after "optimizing" all pre-installed apps it will tell you it's less than 200MB, which will result in a lot of error messages about insufficient memory to install/upgrade built-in and/or additional apps. You'll need to manually clear the cache to even work with the device.

A round of applause for the genius Android developers for their completely broken storage management which seems to get worse with each release.

Last time I ever bought an Android based device.

P.S.: to the SIM problem guy: had the same issue initially (SIM not recognized), but it went away after a soft reset (and disabling SIM2).

downgrade from lollipop to jelly bean ( THEN u can manualy update from jelly bean to kitkat if u want)

note: this is only for the software version starts with ww, for others try on your own with jelly bean version at ur own risk

                  Here is the guide:

1.Activate developer mode (Settings-> about-> software information-> quickly tap ur finger 7 to 8 times times on the -> build number)

                  2. and then go to settings u can find new developer options tab, jus enable USB debugging in that.

3.then go to settings-> security-> enable unknown sources.

                  4. Download the firmware 4.3 (UL-K012-WW-10.32.1.33.1-user.zip) from asus link: .
( to download firware go to asus website, select ur tablet model fe170cg then
click support and click driver and tools, select os as android and select firmware
and download the version Version WW V10.32.1.33.1
( firmware version varies for different countries like ww,tr,tw,tn, this method is for firmware
which starts with ww, for other regions try with your own jellybean version like tr,tw,tn at ur own risk)

5.after downloading "UpdateLauncher_K012_WW_10_32_1_33_1.zip". Extract it and you'll get a file with name "UL-K012-WW-10.32.1.33.1-user.zip"
                  Rename the file "UL-K012-WW-10.32. 1.33.1-user.zip " as " K012_SDUPDATE.zip ".
Copy the file has been renamed ("K012_SDUPDATE.zip") on the SD card.

6.Go to recovery (turn ur tab off ->press volume UP and POWER simultaneously till u see asus logo).
then Select "RECOVERY MODE" (by pressing the volumekeys )
and press the power button to confirm.
Wait for the installation of the firmware and you will be taken back to 4.3 jelly bean.
Then if u want kitkat proceed to the 4.4.2 over the air MANUALLY ..
and then remember to turn off automatic downloading of firmware via WIFI ..
(SETTINGS -> INFO-> UPDATING THE SYSTEM -> the three dots at the top right -> disable "Automatic download via Wi-Fi")

a big thanks to evilangel004 who original shared this idea in internet, hope it will be helpfull. lets thanks evilangel004.

I want to know whether model K012 can be upgraded to version 4.4 from the existing 4.3 because whenever the system upgrade takes place automatically apps stop working.

The device gets automatic updates in system and the updates are not compatible with the hardware. This leads to stopping of the process system and the apps not at all working. I took the device to the service centre for the third time and was advised not to update/install automatic updates. After the expiry of warranty period if the same problem continues, I have to incur service charges. Further if the non removable battery gets out of order, I don't know how will th device work.

                                  i have fonepad 7 white model fe170cg since 2014 4gb jellybean version..few points i want to mention..

i wanted to root my fonepad but read somewhere it cannot be rooted like other mobiles..plus google play services started giving error about software and device architecture blah blah..

i hesitated to upgrade from jellybean to kitkat since few users here and other review sites mentioned that battery life drastically decreases and sd card problem.. so want to clarify about that..

yes it did had battery decreasing problem for a day after i upgraded to kitkat..but you can control it and have exact similar battery life as in jellybean..you need to..1) change wifi advanced setting -> keep wifi on during sleep to never(increases data usage) and 2) start smart saving as it isnt by default as it used to be during jellybean..3)plus with kitkat upgrade you can even disable more system apps under preloaded apps section..disable all you dont use..as did for omlet chat & amazon kindle in jellybean..4)also install greenify to dont let user apps run in background.. thats it..

havent encountered sd card problem..internal storage stat 402 mb available & 160 mb ram..if you need more ram than reboot it..i mainly use for internet surfing only..
