I have used this almost every night for 10 years, still works, best tech item I ever purchased? Only read books or watch you tube on it, but that's great.

This was one of the very first tablets I've ever had. I bought it way back in early 2013, and it doesn't work anymore because it's with a cracked screen.

DO NOT UPDATE THE ASUS NEXUS 7 to Android 6.0.1!!
I still have mine and I used it for watching Youtube on the couch or my exercise bike in the basement. Worked fine for years. Finally started getting errors and messages and I could not watch youtube without all kinds of problems, and I could not download and install the Adblock Browser either.
I foolishly allowed the system to update from 4.02 all the way thru 6.0.1 and now nothing works and I cant go back. I bricked my own hardware out of ignorance. Nice little tablet that worked fine for years is now useless. Learn from my mistakes. I think android 5 would have worked but I didnt keep it long enough to be sure.

Can't imagine this thing even existed. Whaat??!!! And was out of reach for a younger me. Smartphone tech really becomes redundant fairly quickly.

I had this tablet with android 5.1.1 and it was unusable: too slow, it almost got thrown across the room on many an occasion. Factory reset helped a little but not much. I rooted it and installed android 7 AOSP from here:

It is not a trivial process: I used Nexus root toolkit to root the device and load TWRP recovery firmware on.
All I can say about the new firmware is WOW. This is a completely different device and is actually usable for light tasks. It will bog down when loading snazzy webpages or applications for the first time but catches its breath after a few moments.
