Anand, 24 Aug 2008Hey t-dome, Is it possible to install other os like Andr... moreProbably it is possible but for now we "normal people" don't know how.
The P320's firmware flash format must still be understood (hacked) so one can flash Android instead of a new Windows Update.

If you find other good games please tell me.

You should also activate full anti-aliasing in PocketGnuboy because the image looks much better that way.

Guys I finally took the plunge on Sunday, bought it for 11.4, put in a 2GB card on it as well. The white one look classy. Now software installation.

PointUI, works fine, already hung once :)

Pocket Player, nice interface but unfortunately scrolling works opposite of what pointUI does so it gets confusing. Its skinnable but not much choice, has an equalizer built in as well.

I found and installed this neat add on that allows we to use T9 while inputting into the device. Very useful for me to type messages without stylus.

Downloaded opera, not yet installed, Google maps works fine with the wifi, location was perfect. Haven't tried with GPRS as I don't have a SIM yet :)

Now I have this mapmyindia software but I have not been able to get it to recognize the GPS, will still be trying.

Is there any way to switch programs ?

Can you guys also mention the what is the use of each software that you guys are currently running.

I hv found all the software I am using through Google itself.

The device does not come loaded with any DivX codecs, but TCPMP comes with many codecs built-in - I use it to watch DivX titles on a regular basis. As for music, the built-in WM Player can play most common formats with ease, but I prefer to use GSPlayer for its simplicity.

And where did u buy the phone from? coz here in india, we get only the wall charger.

can you elaborate on the softwares that u use on the phone? thanx.

I'm currently downloading my first GBA game... lets see how it goes.

And yes, pointUI works very well for me! I didnt expect to see iphone like or atleast such smooth interface on my p320 :) Hasnt crashed in on me yet... But the battery still continues to worry me even after using the advanced control software...

Any particular game that u recommend on the GBA?

Hi guys, to make sure the network bug is fixed by Asus engineers, write to their customer support regarding problems and tell them its a general s/w bug and to fix it:

                      1. General low signal.

                      2. And frequent loss of total signal and network which is only fixed by a soft boot.

The more customers who write, the better for the community. Tell them to forward your feedback to concerned people (engineers).

Also 4.10 ROM is out for India :

                        Hello,
I have the phone from about a month. Of course there are some things that I don't like.
First, the ringing is too quiet. In normal working environment it is impossible to hear.
Second, the vibration when enabled works non-stop. There is no pause in the "buzzzzz".
Third, after a call it takes more than 5 seconds to use the phone.
Fourth, sometimes the telephone looses the network and tells "NO SERVICE" until soft reset.

Of course the phone has positives - the price, the dimensions. I was pleased when opened the box and there were two (yes too) chargers, for car and home. There were stand to put the phone in the car. There were soft case for the phone.

                        Best,
                        Nikolay

I took a look at the Tracky homepage and it seems very good. Might replace my SpeedSentry...

I am also a very very big fan of PointUI Home, should it only get a bit better and stable! This proggy seems to be made for the P320.

Hope this little "forum" will be kept alive. I am also looking forward to test other operating systems on the P320 (like Google Android), but the P320 is still too new, it needs to be analyzed first.

On that matter, a big hello to the guys at xda-developers.com .

when you set the phone "to switch off" after xx minutes of inactivity or when you briefly press the Off key, the phone enters suspend (standby) mode. But then it is still receiving calls, SMSes or an active GPS signal; you can tell that by the still flashing led.

I have set my phone to go into standby after 1 minute of inactivity - and I still get calls, or alarms. That's normal.

At least it works that way with my firmware version 4.8.

Murali, 22 Aug 2008Apart from the built-in programs I use: -PocketGnuBoy - ... moreHi again,

                                1. the phone came with this firmware BIOS version, I didn't upgrade it. I am from Eastern Europe but the WWE suffix I think means that I have a Western Europe version (it's in english). On the Asus support site there are a few newer versions but only for French, Russian, Chinese and Taiwanese language editions.
The update process is described in the file to be downloaded from the Asus site.

If some of you have problems with the phone I am pretty sure that they will be resolved with future upgrades, just be patient.

I have absolutely no problem with the phone, apart from the fact that I hate Windows (Mobile).

                                Some more info:
                                ROM/Boot version: 4.8.0_0612_WWE
                                Radio version: GXM_20080606_4.6
                                Battery version: 1.4
Extended ROM version (could be a sort of BIOS version - needs research): V1.10.0 KAN

                                2. I installed "Advanced Configuration Tool" (a free soft) and enabled all the energy saving registry options in it, nothing else - I don't think that they bettered up the battery life but anyways...

My battery life is about 3-4 days if I don't use the phone much: about 20 min. talk/day, 2 SMS/day, some fiddling in the menu, starting some programs. So this I consider the upper value.

But when I use GPS about 2 hours, Wifi and test many new programs, I need to recharge the phone the second day.

Bear in mind that the battery life gets better and better in time, after about 3 weeks it gets to a maximum.

And now I connect the phone a lot to the PC and use it in the car (with the car charger) for at least 1 hour a day, so the battery life is practically unlimited ;) because it never gets below 20% .

No worries here either because if (and I emphasize "IF") the battery gets worse in 1-2 years and I still want to use this phone, I simply buy another battery. One advantage over iPhone users ;-) .

                                3. You're welcome!

Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970Apart from the built-in programs I use:

-PocketGnuBoy - an excellent GameBoy emulator, works like a charm on the P320
                                  -Total Commander CE
-GPS Speed Sentry for measuring and tracking the speed (in a car)
                                  -iGo 2006 Plus
-FdcSoft Taskmanager 3.1 - as a registry editor
-sometimes PointUI Home; only "sometimes" because it crashes the phone regularly.
-Advanced Configuration Tool - here I enabled several registry tweaks for energy saving
                                  -GSPlayer

Without PointUI, my Phone is stable. Only twice I needed to reset it recently because PocketGnuBoy crashed.

                                  My ROM version/date: 4.8.0_0612_WWE/ 12th of June 2008

Now thats what we are talking about :)

                                  1. How did u end up with Rom 4.8.x?? I have 4.5 - my question is, how do i get it updated?

                                  2. What is the battery life u experience?

                                      Hey Ankit,

Unfortunately, these are the same issues i have been facing too. Especially sour is the feature that the phone "turns itself off" while trying to save power. I mean, whats the point? might as well turn it off completely. Once out of hibernation, it catches the signal. God knows how many calls were missed by then.

The battery life continues to worry me, having a fully charged phone in the morning, while it begs for a charge in the late evenings.

I usually end up doing about 3 soft resets everyday.

Once over the initial teething period, the phone becomes a good companion, except for the few problems mentioned.

I've tried installing TCPMP quite a number of times, but it has never worked. I guess it is a bad release.

I'm curious to know what other software are being used by other users. Plz contribute to collective knowledge! Tell me what programs u use.

                                      Thanks guys!

The phone is a little unstable :

                                        1. If you use Wifi + phone, the signal almost drops to 0 signal.

                                        2. Often,i take the phone out of my pocket and see it searching for a signal, only a reboot fixes this.
